Responsibilities:
This incumbent will develop, implement and maintain departmental training and library-wide cross training materials and activities. Specific duties include: assisting with the supervision of student employees; developing and implementing library-wide cross training materials for staff and student employees; providing assistance to patrons at the reference desk; assisting in the planning and implementation of a variety outreach activities to promote use of the library and its services; providing administrative support to the Reference department, including assistance with departmental analytics and assessment; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience directly related to the primary functions of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of basic principles of quality customer service and teamwork
- Demonstrated ability and interest in the areas of library public services and outreach
- Interest and/or experience in developing staff training materials
- Demonstrated high-quality written and verbal communication
- Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team
- Ability to initiate and lead projects to completion
- Interest and/or experience working with diverse populations
- Ability to learn and operate a variety of common computing and productivity applications and specialized library hardware, systems, and software applications
Closing Date: March 2, 2018
Salary: Pay Range 10 (starting at $28,653) based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program
Hours: Part-time. Hours for this position are: Tuesday - Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (with one weekday 1:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m). Hours are subject to change to reflect changes in library hours and staffing needs.
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Lighten the load with a locker!
If you’ve got too much to carry, consider stashing some of your books in a locker! The AOK Library has lockers that can be checked out on a daily or semester-ly basis (for free!).
Daily lockers are available to UMBC students, faculty, and staff for a 24 hour period. Stop at the Check Out desk to pick up a key.
Semester lockers can be reserved for an entire semester at a time (Spring or Fall). Interested UMBC students, faculty and staff, please fill out the Locker Application Form.
Please note:
- Materials kept in lockers and locker keys are the responsibility of the user. The library takes no responsibility for material lost, stolen or damaged while stored in lockers.
- Food and drink may not be stored in lockers.
- Please make sure you’ve checked out any Library books you’d like to store in your locker.

Announcing: the UMBC Financial Literacy Enthusiast Awards
Trade your best financial advice for a $500 prize
The UMBC Financial Literacy Enthusiast Awards recognize students that exemplify,
understand, and promote financial literacy. Winners will receive a prize
in the form of a direct deposit to their Red Campus
Card, to be used at the Bookstore, any campus food vendor,
vending machines, pay-for-print locations and community partners (listed here).
Prizes:
1st - $500 red card deposit
2nd - $250 red card deposit
I’m confused. Where can I use the prize money again?
Anywhere that you can use your red card. For
example:
-the Bookstore
-Campus food vendors like Outtakes, True Grits, and Salsaritas
-Paying tuition and fees on myUMBC or at SBS
-Campus vending machines

How are winners determined?
A handful of finalists will be hand-selected
by a panel of judges. Those entries will then be posted to myUMBC, where the
campus community will vote on the best entries. The winners will be the
entries that make it past the judges and receive the most community votes from
students, staff, and faculty.

Members of the UMBC Financial Literacy and
Education Committee.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Collection Management/Interlibrary Loan Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for lending to, or borrowing from, other libraries, and will query national and local online databases, as well as internet and reference sources, to search and verify bibliographic references. Specific duties include: search and retrieve journals and books; scan and deliver articles for ILL and document delivery; prepare and send print materials; assist in supervising and training student assistants.
Note: This position requires physical labor-lifting and pushing loaded book trucks.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a High School Diploma or GED; one year of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position. Must have good organization and communication skills and be detail oriented, self motivated and flexible. The ability to work independently is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Proficient with word processing applications
2. Experience using ILLiad management system and/or RAPID
3. Familiarity with Excel spreadsheets

you earn less than $54,000 in 2017? If you did, why waste your money on
paid tax preparers when you can get your taxes done for free by
IRS-trained and certified volunteers from VITA@UMBC? Make an
appointment at bmorefreetaxes.org or by calling 410-234-8008.
Just ask to be scheduled with UMBC and you’ll meet with UMBC volunteers
at the Apartment Community Center across from Walker Garage.
