UMBC To Discontinue Five Legacy Email Domains April 4 - Legacy Email Delivery Will Be Stopped UMBC will discontinue delivery of email sent to five legacy email domains beginning April 4, 2013. During the past two months there has been an increase in spam to the campus. Analysis of the mail logs has shown that much of this increase can be attributed to mail being sent to and from legacy email domains (see below) that are no longer used.

NOTE: Only the email domains below will be affected by this change. Email sent to username@umbc.edu and previously exempted email domains will remain unaffected.

Legacy Email Domains to Be Discontinued on April 4, 2013

In some situations these legacy email domains may have been published thus making continued delivery important to an individual. If you would like to continue delivery of one or more of these legacy email domains please submit a ticket requesting your email be exempted from the changes going into effect on April 4, 2013.

It is important to note that anyone who has migrated their mail to Google will not experience any disruption during this upgrade.  All of the services listed above will be available for campus use until 10:30am on Wednesday March 20th and will be available again at 11am on Wednesday March 20th once the upgrade has been completed.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Technology Support Center at x53838.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and wish everyone a good spring break.

This includes all associated faculty, staff and students (with a declared major or minor under a CAHSS department). The pilot is scheduled for one year.

Background
DoIT has been using Qualtrics for over a year. We use the tool for all of our surveys, most notably the survey attached to the bottom of each resolved RT ticket. This tool was used heavily during the 2012 UMBC campus wide retreat with great success. Recently several faculty from various CAHSS departments expressed an interest in accessing DoIT's pilot of Qualtrics as many of them pay for various online survey tools (e.g. Qualtrics, Surveymonkey, Zoomerang) annually at approximately $500 per faculty member. Unfortunately, DoIT’s license agreement does not allow us to add non-DoIT staff to our instance of Qualtrics.

DoIT  is sponsoring a one year pilot for all faculty, staff and students that are part of the CAHSS. We are hopeful the product and its use will produce a compelling business case for the College to continue funding beyond year 1. If there is no interest beyond year one we simply won't renew the contract.

Need images for presentations, research and other projects?  The AOK library now provides access to the ARTstor Digital Library.  ARTstor provides access to over 1 million images in the arts, architecture, humanities and science.  These images are hi-resolution images that may be downloaded and used for classroom and research purposes.  

Join us for a 1 hour workshop that will introduce some basic and not-so-basic tips for making the most of this exciting new resource.

Access rare primary source material in a cross-searchable digital format.

Archives Unbound provides access to topically-focused digital collections of historical documents. Collections in Archives Unbound cover a broad range of topics from the Middle Ages forward - from Witchcraft to World War II to twentieth-century political history. Collections are chosen for Archives Unbound based on requests from scholars, archivists, and students.

Several collections are highlighted but there is access to all 144 of the collections, browse the index or use the search box for additional titles. Listed in 'Our collections' are:
  • "Through the Camera Lens:" The Moving Picture World and the Silent Cinema Era, 1907-1927
  • "We Were Prepared for the Possibility of Death:" Freedom Riders in the South, 1961
  • 19th Century English-Language Journals from the Far East
  • Actes royaux français, 1256-1794 (French Royal Acts, 1256-1794)
  • Afghanistan and the U.S., 1945-1963: Records of the U.S. State Department Central Classified Files
