UMBC now has trial access  to two Sage Research Methods databases:

Sage Research Methods : Cases provides access to hundreds of case studies showing how methods are applied in real research studies. Browse or search by method, discipline, or academic level.

Sage Research Methods: Data Sets provides access to over 150 data sets using data from real research, designed to support the teaching and independent learning of data analysis techniques. Select by method, discipline, or data type; data sets include both quantitative and qualitative research.

The trials will run from October 23 - November 30, 2018.

The Library has two types of study rooms available for student use:

 

● Reservable Study Rooms:

These 20 rooms can be reserved up to five days in advance. Reservations are limited to 3 hours per person or group each day. Book yours today!

 

● Open Study Rooms:

These 12 rooms are left open for students to use on a first-come, first-served basis. Each room has four seats.  They are located on the Quiet Floors: rooms 553-558 and 653-658.

With sadness we share with you that Darlene Houck, retired Administrative Assistant at the AOK Library and Gallery, passed away on September 26th, 2018.

Darlene Houck first worked as a temporary office secretary for the Library in 1984. Her accuracy and prodigious output earned her a permanent position. She was always willing to learn something new. Over the years she took on acquisitions and cataloging work as well as numerous projects and other responsibilities for the Library Technical Services Department. She retired in 2016 with over 30 years of service.

She is survived by her husband Michael Houck, and sons Andrew and MJ Houck. A celebration will be held in her honor:

At the last Meeting of the Graduate Senate on Monday October 1, we discussed a potential new Initiative the GSA could undertake: An Emergency Loan Initiative. While we are far from having all of the details, we envision this initiative as a mechanism that could provide temporary financial support to graduate students in times of financial need.

We are looking to have a group of 3-5 students interested in pursuing the details of this initiative in concert with the Graduate Senate.

If there is enough interest, a committee may be formed at the next Meeting of the Graduate Senate and can provide compensation for up to 5 active students.
