Winter Dissertation House – Coming January 22-25, 2013
Join us for the Winter Dissertation House at UMBC. Applications are due by December 14, 2012.
If you are a Graduate Student at UMBC, and if you are working on your graduate school courses, proposal, or dissertation, then this event is for you!The on-campus setting provides Dissertation House participants with productive and rewarding scholastic engagement. Students who participate in this program will spend each day thinking, writing, and sharing ideas about their doctoral dissertations. Students will learn effective time-management skills; learn how to set small manageable goals, and will meet with a dissertation coach in one-on-one consultations to discuss and address obstacles that might prevent them completing their degrees.This is a weekday (9 a.m. – 5 p.m., non-residential) commitment set for the week of Tuesday, January 22 – Friday, January 25, 2013.This information and other details about the Dissertation House can be found on:

The Library will be open from Dec. 6 - 21 for your studying convenience:
Monday - Thursday: 8 am - 2 am
Friday: 8 am - 10 pm
Saturday: 10 am - 10 pm
Sunday: 12 Noon - 2 am
Service will only be available at the Circulation Desk during the extended hours. All other service desks will close at their normal time.
Also, the Atrium and the Retriever Learning Center (RLC) are always open. RLC access is by UMBC ID card swipe only.

Access Engineering contains 320+ professional McGraw-Hill texts in 15 major areas of engineering including civil, electrical, and mechanical. Texts include: Perry’s Chemical Engineers’ Handbook, Marks’ Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers, Roark’s Formulas for Stress and Strain, as well as Schaum’s Outlines. You will find approximately 750 Interactive Tables and Graphs, 108 Videos (50 from Mark’s, 30 from Schaum’s, and 28 from Perry’s), and Curriculum Maps designed by the Editor in Chief of Perry’s and Mark’s.

2) The National Physical Science Consortium. (Note that we’ve had NPSC scholars in the past. This deadline in Nov. 30.)

The EAPSI Program provides U.S. graduate students in science and engineering (U.S. citizens and permanent residents) with an opportunity to spend 8 weeks (10 weeks for Japan) during the summer conducting research at one of the seven host locations in East Asia and Pacific: Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan.
NSF provides EAPSI Fellows with a $5,000 stipend and roundtrip airplane ticket to the host location. Our foreign counterparts provide in-country living expenses and accommodations (arrangements vary by host location).
For more information, please read the Program Solicitation, host location-specific Handbooks, and How to Apply Guide available at
www.nsf.gov/eapsi.
Please note that only one letter of recommendation (from current advisor) is required. Please forward this NSF research opportunity to your faculty, graduate students, and anyone interested:
