Special Customized MATLAB Seminar for Graduate Students

Several graduate students have expressed a need for assistance with MATLAB.  In order to assist you with understanding some of the more advanced concepts of MATLAB, PROMISE, the Graduate Student Development Unit of the Graduate School, and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics will sponsor a special, customized session for graduate students and others who want more in-depth instruction. The service will be provided by the Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Consulting (CIRC).

* A prepared demonstration of numerical computation in MATLAB
* Advanced programming techniques in MATLAB
* MATLAB tutors will be present to provide individualized assistance.

Presenters:
Jonathan McHenry, with support from Zana Coulibaly and Xuan Huang.

This session is being coordinated by Professor Matthias Gobbert, with support from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. We thank Dr. Gobbert for putting the session together.

Social Explorer is an online research tool designed to provide quick and easy access to historical census data and demographic information. It creates fast, intuitive, and appealing maps and reports to help users visually analyze and understand demography and social change throughout history. The Oxford African American Studies Center (AASC) provides students, scholars and librarians with online access to the finest reference resources in African American studies. At its core, AASC features the new, three-volume Encyclopedia of African American History 1619-1895, published by Oxford in 2006; the three-volume Black Women in America, Second Edition, edited by Darlene Clark Hine, published in March 2005, the highly acclaimed Africana, a five-volume history of the African and African American experience. The Center also includes content from much-anticipated forthcoming print publications including the African American National Biography project (estimated at 8 volumes), edited by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., scheduled for publication in 2008; and the Encyclopedia of African American Art and Architecture, due for publication 2007. In addition to these major reference works, AASC offers other key resources from Oxford's reference program, including the Concise Oxford Companion to African American Literature and selected articles from other reference works.

Enhancing the core content will be the latest in online reference technology, granting users easy access to the valuable material included in the resource center.
