Congratulations to Brandon Enriquez ’17, economics and mathematics, for being named student regent for the University System of Maryland Board of Regents. Brandon is serving a one year term representing more than 168,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 12 Maryland institutions as a voting member of the board.

Brandon joins a proud history of UMBC Honors College students serving in this role. UMBC has sent four student regents to the board since 2003 and all of them have been members of the Honors College: Phil Shockley ’04, information systems and political science (2003-04), Josh Michael ’10, political science (2008-09), Collin Wojciechowski ’13, political science and media & communication studies (2011-2012), and now Brandon Enriquez (2016-17).

We are incredibly proud of Brandon. He will represent UMBC and the entire community of students in the University of Maryland System.

Congratulations to Max Poole, ’18, Mathematics and Computer Science double major and member of the Honors College, for being named Researcher of the Week in August. Max conducted research in the Neutron Research Center writing a python feature script for the NICE neutron beam client. The feature Max designed will allow advanced users to write custom python scripts that will give them more control over experiments.

We are incredibly proud of Max for his hard work and creativity. Congratulations!

"Gujaran will use her research grant to study antibiotic drug resistance at the University of Melbourne’s department of microbiology and immunology. She credits her experiences pursuing civic engagement opportunities through The Shriver Center and Honors College with inspiring her to become a well-rounded researcher, dedicating her time to help improve access to healthcare for people who need it the most.

'I want to focus on infectious diseases because I really want to work with international populations, specifically in developing countries that might not have access to healthcare,' says Gujaran."

Honors College grad Ayushi Aggarwal '16 (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Laos, but is unable to complete the program at this time.
