Black Power in DC

A new digital humanities project by George Derek Musgrove

February 25th, 12-1pm

On February 1, 2021, Associate Professor of History, George Derek Musgrove, launched the online "StoryMap," Black Power in DC, created in collaboration with the Imaging Research Center (IRC). His goal was to represent the evolution of this influential social movement over space and time through interactive geographic maps, historical photographs and text. The project builds from his book, Chocolate City: A History of Race and Democracy in the Nation’s Capital, co-authored with Chris Myers Asch and published in 2017.

Join Dr. Musgrove, along with Professor of History, Dr. Anne Rubin, and IRC Director, Lee Boot to experience and learn about this exciting new project. You will have an opportunity to hear about the thinking that went into the conception and design of the web application, the process of creating it, and how it relates to what is going on in digital humanities more broadly.

This event is sponsored by the Imaging Research Center and the Department of History. You can read a bit more Black Power in DC it HERE.
