The third floor shaking incubators are all good to go.

Eppendorf will be out this coming Monday 3/17 to inspect and certify that the newly stacked S44R shaking incubator is calibrated and safely attached for use. 

Please refrain from using either of these two units on Monday morning.  If you need to use a shaking incubator, we do have capacity on the 4th floor in room 424-3.

The Steris tech replaced a solenoid today and repaired the autoclave.

Please feel free to use it. Please let me know if you have any issues with the machine. 

It appears we have a faulty solenoid on the 4th floor autoclave, as we are getting steam into the jacket, but not the chamber for sterilization. We do have an additional three units in the research wing, two on the third floor and one on the second floor.

The Steris technician has been called, but most likely won't be in until tomorrow as the best case scenario. 

The RO water loop will be sanitized next Monday the 28th of October. This is a two day process and RO will be unavailable on both the 28th and 29th, as the system needs to be flushed repeatedly before usage.

The techs will be going lab to lab after the sanitization to assure chlorine levels are reduced to undetectable to finish the job. During the sanitization, water to both millipore systems on the 4th floor and the picopure system needs to be turned off to avoid burning out the cartridges. Also any fish tanks which may still be connected to the loop must be turned off.

This is a reminder that the University will not have high temperature hot water to produce steam beginning this Friday May, 10th until May 31st. Steris will be out on Thursday to inspect and do PM's on the autoclaves, particularly the new electric unit on the third floor. This unit will keep our research progressing until the end of the outage. It is probably still a good idea to get as much done this week prior to the outage, as a single autoclave can still be a bottleneck for all the people in the building. 

Starting tomorrow, I'll be out on an extended medical leave. If you run into issues with the elevators, please feel free to call 5-2550. Otherwise send me an email and I'll see if I can troubleshoot the issue. 

If you run out of paper towels, I have a bunch in the basement in front of my office along with D batteries for the paper towel dispensers. Please let me know if we're running low. Classes are running as scheduled and I'll be able to lock down the building and classrooms from home.

I have updated the classroom usage and requests for those same rooms on the ILSB website. The requests for spaces which have not yet been approved are in the hatched timeblocks. 

This is a great resource to look for available spaces in the building. Keep in mind however, that the registrar can make moves until the 12th of this month and student groups can request space after the 12th until roughly two weeks prior to finals. So the data may be out of date although I'll update the usage after the 12th. 

If you are looking to move a class into the ILSB, this needs to be done by your department scheduler, through the registrar. I will somewhat have the ability to place events (non credit events) through 25live after the 12th. 

I have also updated the ILSB website to allow everyone to know what is going on in the atrium over the weekends. https://ilsb.umbc.edu/events/ Other than student tours most weekends we have a number of both campus and external groups using classrooms and spaces over the weekends. 

The building will be locked on the weekends bookending Spring break and during Quadmania. I'll try to keep these updated on the website, just know that the web addresses will not be changing.
