All,

Autoclave waste must be put into a black bag prior to being put into the autoclave trash cans in the research wings for disposal.

Three autoclaved red bags made their way to the loading dock before being discovered were found this morning.  I realize folks are rushing to attend to their labs needs while autoclaves are available, but please don't skip any steps that keep people safe.

Hi all,

The high temperature hot water outage will begin tomorrow and last through June 8th. There will be no hot water in the restrooms and temperatures will most likely be chilly in the offices and laboratories. Please bring a sweater or a jacket to work for the duration.

The 3rd floor autoclave will be operational, but with a single unit in the building during the outage, I ask everyone to be prompt retrieveing their supplies and or hazardous waste.

Within the last week a table used for microscopy in room 221E went missing. Whoever took it moved the microscope off of of the table and onto a cart, so it's obvious that the table was being used. 

We need the table back. 

This type of behavior is totally unacceptable. We have 17 research groups in the building, every inch and bench are accounted for. If you need tables or bench space please reach out to me, I can probably find a solution.

The campus will begin their annual high temperature hot water outage beginning this Friday, May 22nd. Both laboratory and domesstic hot water will be affected along with both humidity levels in the vivarium and most of our autoclaves. Humidity in the vivarium will be maintained by humidifiers, if required. 

The third floor autoclave on the right hand side will be operational for the duration of the outage which is scheduled to end on June 6th. This annual outage is critical for the maintenance of the steam used to heat the bulk of the campus.

I just wanted to alert everyone that we will be having a couple projects ongoing. I'll update the list as I get more information.

Beginning May 26th, facilities will be conducting some work at the north entrance of the ILSB (Facing Physics) to address mechanical access panels in the ceiling. The plan currently will involve closing access to the  east entrance, facing Physics, for two weeks +/-  and then replicating similar work in the west side / quad facing entrance. 

There is nothing you need to do at the monent other than be aware of the plans and expect to have to use the quad facing west entrance for the end of May / beginning of June.

It's hard to believe, but finals begin in less than two weeks. I know students will become scarce and before you disappear for the summer, I need to know who I will need to remove from access to the building and who has keys that I need to have signed back in. Please send an email to Dennis Cuddy at Cuddy@umbc.edu to arrange turning in your keys if any. 

I also need to inventory the seating arrangements in the research wing. I'm attaching a floorplan so we are all on the same page for occupancy. Please respond to me directly  with where you are sitting (ie, third floor, station 4). This info will allow me to have current, correct information for a potential new Dean in CNMS.

I rented a -80 freezer to defrost one of our units in the building. Due to scheduling conflicts, it will not be picked up until the 7th. Please let me know immediately if you would like to make use of this unexpected opportunity.
