Severe thunderstorms are forecast on campus starting around noon. There is a potential that tornado warnings could be issued. Anyone physically on campus needs to remain alert and go to a safe place if a tornado warning is issued. In the ILSB, this is the basement. If researchers or others need to go to campus, they should remain aware of the potential for a tornado warning while they are on campus. 

FM is standing by and ready to respond in the event of an emergency. 

Steam generator 1B is back in operation and maintaining 50+ psi. Feel free to use any of the house system plumbed steam autoclaves. 

The third floor stand alone autoclave is showing an error message, I will be up later this afternoon to clear that out.

Last night steam generator 1B suffered a tube rupture.  The generator has been isolated and a tube bundle replacement is underway.    We anticipate 2 – 3 days to have the generator bundle replaced.  While isolating the generator we discovered a leaking packing gland on one of the steam isolation valves.  It is likely we will be able to repack the valve, however if we are unable to this may delay returning the system to operation.  

Fortunately this was a small leak and the HTHW was properly cooled and drained though the quenching system. With no external damage in the mechanical room.    

Currently the steam system is generating about 20 psi of steam.  This will not be enough to operate your autoclaves and will result in low humidity in the vivarium.  

We do have the stand alone autoclave on the third floor right hand side available for such emergencies. With this being the only autoclave in the building over the next few days, I'm requesting that everyone be prompt and attentive while using this autoclave as we have 17 research groups in the building most using an autoclave. I would also request that if you are autoclaving biohazardous waste, that you bring the autoclaved bags back to your research labs home floor for evening disposal.

The campus chilled water outage is complete. We still have some localized work to do in Biology, but everything else is back up and running. Thanks again for your cooperation and patience. This finished up a full week early and is good news.

I want to point out that the backup chillers on the roof are located directly across from the from the research wing elevator. With the the chillers running, there is a noticeable hum the closer you get to the 4th floor. This is not unusual but I did want to make everyone aware that this is not a problem with the elevator it self. 

Work on the chilled water loop is scheduled to finish up the Morning of January 19th, so please be patient. 

One of our investigators is missing some of a large order which was placed back in November and was delivered to the warehouse and brought to the ILSB. We're hoping someone picked these up by mistake.

The ILSB is equipped with it's own redundant chilled water system on the roof, which will be activated today. It has been tested and is ready to go, so we should not see any degradation in operations of environmental rooms or building systems
