<Title>Volunteer at the AIS Conference</Title>

    <div>INDS is 
    proud to host this year's <a href="http://ais2017.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Association for Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) international conference</a>
     here on the UMBC campus. The conference theme is "Beyond 
    talking heads: applied and experiential 
    learning through an interdisciplinary lens." Plan to learn more about 
    interdisciplinary approaches to project-based learning! It will be held 
    Thursday, October 19 through Saturday, October 21.<br><br>There are many ways you could get involved!<br><br><div>- You could <a href="http://ais2017.universitytickets.com/user_pages/event_listings.asp" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">register as a student for $50</a>. This conference
     registration includes all 
    conference materials, attendance to all sessions, banquet dinner off-campus 
    featuring UMBC President Freeman Hrabowski on Thursday evening, 
    breakfast and lunch on Friday and Saturday, and the after-party party on 
    Saturday evening. Your registration fee also includes one-year membership into 
    AIS where you will stay abreast of all news and research from the 
    association. This does not include a volunteer shirt, and does not require any hours to volunteer. <a href="https://goo.gl/forms/QHPDWAS2gNxAI5v13" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">You would be welcome to volunteer</a> and <a href="http://inds.umbc.edu/inds-service-cords/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">earn service points</a>.<br><br>

     You could receive the La Noue Scholarship to attend the conference for

     attendance at this conference would be advantageous to you and your 
    degree plan. You would be treated as a registered participant of the 
    conference with all perks listed above. Deadline to apply is Thursday,

    <div>
    <strong>The Spanish Lab offers drop in Spanish help, provided by the Learning Resources Center.</strong> This is a space where you can work on your Spanish homework or group projects and ask tutors for help if you need it. It's like having a group study session with tutors available if you have questions. <strong>If you're taking a Spanish class up to SPAN 201 and you need extra practice or help, this is your chance!</strong>

    <div><br></div>
    <div>Spanish Lab runs <strong>every Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. until December 8. </strong>The lab happens on the first floor of the library, in the space that the Writing Center and Math Lab normally occupy.</div>

<Title>Explore Hopkins Weekend 2017</Title>

    <div>Johns Hopkins University is pleased to host the Explore Hopkins Program (EHOP), Thursday, October 12 to Saturday, October 14, on our Homewood Campus, in Baltimore, MD.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>EHOP is a joint effort between the university’s Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and Whiting School of Engineering. We seek to identify excellent emerging scholars who have research experience and are interested in pursuing a PhD. Our program is designed to provide students from underrepresented backgrounds with a personalized opportunity to learn more about our doctoral programs. </div>

    <div>attend graduate admissions workshops</div>
    <div>network with world-class faculty</div>
    <div>gain insight from graduate students</div>
    <div>explore Johns Hopkins and the larger Baltimore community</div>
    <div>Eligibility requirements are as follows:</div>

    <div>Strong academic background with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.5</div>
    <div>Applications are particularly encouraged from Black/African Americans, Latino/Chicano Americans, Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders.</div>

    <div>Preference will be given to juniors and seniors from the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area and Mid-Atlantic states.</div>
    <div>Interested students must fill out the application form by Friday, September 8. Applicants will be notified of decisions by September 18. Lodging and meal costs will be covered for all EHOP participants. </div>

    <div class="html-content">Food is allowed in AOK Library and the RLC.  Drinks are too, but in a covered container please!  We do ask that you avoid pricey equipment like photocopiers, printers, computers, microform readers, the Digital Media Lab, and Special Collections.<br><br>Spills sometimes happen - please clean up as best you can and alert library staff so they can check books and furniture for damage. Paper towels are available in the bathroom if you need them.<br><br>And when you’re finished, toss your trash in a bin!  There are several on each floor.  Happy studying!<br><br>

    <span><div><span><br></span></div>Nationally competitive scholarships help support students to study within the U.S and abroad, by providing funding for graduate school and research opportunities. These scholarships are recognized as some of the most prestigious in the world, and their purpose is to develop outstanding students into leaders whose research and careers will have far-reaching impacts on the world.</span><div><span><br></span></div>

    <p>UMBC provides direct support to students seeking to apply for nationally competitive scholarships. If you are interested in applying for one of these opportunities, you are required to upload a dossier which includes your current transcripts, resume, personal statement (if you have one already written), a short statement about your future academic and career plans, and a short statement about why you want to pursue this scholarship. Once this is received, you will be contacted to set up an in-person appointment to meet with Dr. April Householder. Before beginning this process, please review the eligibility guidelines for the scholarship(s) you are interested in. If you have general questions about any of these opportunities, please email Dr. Householder at <a href="mailto:aprilh@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">aprilh@umbc.edu</a>.</p>
    <p>Please be aware that all scholarships listed below require university sponsorship, and have an on-campus application/interview process, and an internal deadline that is earlier than the final submission deadline.</p>
