Nerissa Vasconcells will be performing a dance piece that combines elements of both modern dance and classical ballet. The intention of this fusion is to motivate others to embark on their own exploration of movement modalities to create on unique to them. Watch her performance at this year's URCAD!

Congratulations to Asif Majid for accepting the DPhil Program in Anthropology, Media, and Performance at the University of Manchester (a 3-year program in the United Kingdom). Mr. Majid will be starting in September, courtesy of full funding from the university. He will be researching the intersection of performance and conflict, as embodied by British Muslim youth. Mr. Majid says, "With all of the complexity associated with this, I imagine that my next three or so years will be a challenging endeavor, but I'm beyond pumped to get started."

Shelbi Tippett researched the impact of a strong haze event from June 9th-11th, 2015 with regards to lidar (light detection and ranging) measurements. These measurements could enhance current knowledge and understanding of particle pollution. To find out more, visit her project at URCAD 2016!

I am performing a research study on inequality among UMBC students. Specifically, this project looks at the impact of student employment on academic performance. This issue is important because poorer students are more likely to be employed during the semester; and students who do worse academically have worse labor market outcomes post-graduation. So if an increase in student employment hurts academic performance, inequality between poor students and rich students should increase.
