Laptop Loans at AOK Library & Gallery
With support from the Department of Information Technology (DoIT), the AOK Library & Gallery has expanded its Equipment Loan Program to include laptops. Five MacBook Pros and five Dell Latitudes are available on a first-come-first-served basis at the Media Desk located on the second floor of the library.
The Equipment Loan Program, along with the Digital Media Lab, provides the UMBC community with access to audio/visual equipment suitable for a wide variety of video, audio, and graphic design projects. For more information regarding available equipment and loan policies, please visit:

Hi Retrievers! Despite the nice weather, the semester is progressing quickly. And while visions of Halloween costumes and Pumpkin Spice might currently be dancing in your head, we at the Learning Resources Center are thinking about midterms!
Yes, the dreaded ‘M’ word! The most recent marker of your achievement in your courses! Everything that you’ve learned this semester has been leading up to this moment! Are you prepared?
We’re sure some of you have already signed up for weekly appointment tutoring (you can now do so through our
Facebook page! Just click the sign up button). We know some of you have been regularly visiting our
Math Lab and
Writing Center.
But for those of you who have the option, have you tried PASS_S.I.?
PASS_SI are peer assisted study sessions conducted by S.I. leaders. PASS_SI leaders are trained students who have taken the class before and passed with a high grade. At a PASS_SI session, leaders will guide students through core concepts of the course and will share the strategies they used to be successful in the course. The study sessions are informal seminars where students review notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools and prepare for examinations.
S.I. is designed for courses that have been considered historically difficulty. Currently, S.I. if offered for
BIOL 141, BIOL 142, BIOL 302, BIOL 303, CHEM 123, GES 120, MATH 150, and
PHYS 121. If you are currently in those courses, check out the
S.I. schedule to find the best session for you!

Archives Gold #2: 50 Objects for UMBC's 50th
A Pin from Homecoming 1976
Special Collections presents our archival project Archives Gold: 50 Objects for UMBC's 50th, a special series showcasing 50 different objects that tell the story of UMBC. Every Thursday we will present a new object from the University Archives - be it a photograph, pin, yearbook, playbill, etc.- leading up to the 50th Anniversary of UMBC's opening in September of next year. This week our object is a pin from UMBC's very first Homecoming in 1976.

In 1975, a group of UMBC students came together to form the first Homecoming Committee hoping to bring tradition and celebration to the UMBC campus. Their proposed motto "It Feels So Good" was chosen for the campus' first Homecoming in February of 1976 believing that it expressed "the feelings of alumni as they greet old friends" and "the wishes of the whole UMBC community to enjoy the pride and the sense of tradition that other schools possess" (1976 Homecoming Committee booklet). Students, faculty, staff, administrators, and UMBC alumni were invited to take part in the celebration with various activities and events, including a pep rally, a mixer featuring band "Climb-A-Donkey," and a homecoming basketball game against the Towson Tigers.
