On Saturday, October 4th, Retriever Robotics (RR) sent a few representatives to help out with the VEX Scrimmage hosted by the Baltimore City Robotics Center. Great job to all of the students who participated with the scrimmage!

Battle O'Baltimore
Volunteering with FIRST
On Friday, September 19th, RR helped set-up the field for the Battle O'Baltimore (BOB). BOB is an off season robotics competition for high school students participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).
The competition itself was on September 20th and had 32 teams, over 80 volunteers, and hundreds of parents, mentors, and visitors. Many RR members originated from FIRST programs, so it was great to give back and take a stroll down memory lane.
Congrats to all of the students who participated in the Battle O'Baltimore and good luck on next year's competition!

RR is ready for Involvement Fest... Are you?

Feel free to approach RR members to test drive some of the bots! (Fair warning: Our robots have been known to "attack" people who don't stop by to say "hi".)

Retriever Robotics: Successful Gaming Tournament Fundraiser!
Raising money to attend the World VEX U tournament!
Last week you may have seen a bunch of Retriever Robotics (RR) people in the Breezeway. You may have even been chased down by a robot (sorry to those we scared). Or, perhaps you heard us promoting our event from across the campus. That was all in preparation of our Super Smash Brothers Melee competition! 30+ signed up for the event and we ended up making a nice dent in our fundraising goal! All proceeds from the event went towards our goal of attending the VEX U World competition.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the event, bought baked goods, and/or donated money to the cause! The event was a huge success and, due to popular demand, it shall be a semester tradition!
I look forward to competing again next semester. I'll be practicing, so be sure to bring your A game!

RR presented about VEX U and had the opportunity to talk to students about the challenges of being a transfer student and how UMBC is a great place to transfer to! Retriever Robotics: US Science and Engineering Festival
Representing UMBC in DC!
On Saturday, April 26th, Retriever Robotics (RR) went to DC to represent UMBC at the US Science and Engineering Festival. CWIT (Center for Women in Technology) and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) attended on behalf of UMBC as well. Creating marshmallow catapults, teaching children how to drive a robot, chasing random people with a robot (and giving them candy for the trouble)... the UMBC table was a hit! It was also fun seeing all of the other booths and networking with various engineering companies.
Overall, the US Science and Engineering Festival was a blast and we look forward to next year! Keep up the awesome work Retrievers!

Retriever Robotics: Hexacopter Demonstration
Learning about robotics and environmental applications
During our last GBM, Retriever Robotics (RR) was given a presentation on hexacopters. In particular, our member Stephen explained about his environmental application of the copter as a member of the research group Ecosynth.

Retriever Robotics: At the FRC Competition!

Retriever Robotics (RR) teamed up with Alpha Sigma Kappa - Women in Technical Studies to attend the FRC competition as spectators. FRC stands for FIRST Robotics Competition and is a robotics competition for high school students. During high school, many RR members were members of FRC teams. Some of those teams include Team 007 (pronounced "Double 'O Seven", like James Bond) and REX.

CEOs and robotics... let's compete!
On Sunday, Retriever Robotics participated in RoboCEO. The CEOs from companies like Mindgrub competed against each other in a VEX tournament using robots made by surrounding schools.
