LGBTQ-SU presents "A Creativity Night: Queer Pathways"
Come join us for an evening of art, making, and creating!
Tuesday, March 9, 2021 · 5 - 6 PM
Come one, come all to our special pop-up event, "A Creativity Night: Queer Pathways"! This event will be held tomorrow, Tuesday March 9th from 5-6pm on Discord. This date and time received the most likes on our poll, and we're excited to see many of our usual suspects along with some newcomers!
This event is open to all UMBC students, staff, faculty, and alumni, so please bring your friends! Remember, though, that we will be centering, respecting, and uplifting the experiences of LGBTQ+ and other historically marginalized people. Be mindful of these Brave Space Guidelines, adopted from the UMBC Women's Center, as you join our space!
This event will be like a "paint night" but with our own spin! Rather than have you all try to directly recreate somebody else's piece, we will offer a few pieces which embody our theme from queer and trans artists as inspiration. We hope you all will create something that speaks to your own pathways, what it's taken to get you where you are now. Whether that means you paint or color important life moments or you queer your experiences to make a less literal piece, all options are valid! What's important is taking those few moments to make something--something that isn't for a grade or even for others!
We recommend a couple options for FREE drawing software that folks who don't have their own art supplies can download! Krita and FireAlpaca can both be easily downloaded and are relatively easy to use (tutorials for FA & Krita)! We'll also be playing lowkey music and asking a few guiding questions for reflection and discussion throughout; so for those who struggle with total silence, fear not!
Please check out and share our downloadable flyer with details and QR code below! And here's a link to the Google Slides that we will use to share the inspiration pieces and discussion questions. Thanks, friends!
