The Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery is seeking a customer-focused individual with library experience to join our team as the inaugural Circulation – Reference Liaison, to facilitate communication and coordination between the two units in a shared service desk environment.
As a member of the Circulation Department team, the Library Services Specialist will participate in departmental functions to assist patrons in locating and using information and library services. Other duties are to document best practices for the unit, collect statistics and log observations of shared service desk transactions. The objective is to develop or adjust services and procedures to enhance user experience and satisfaction.
The candidate is expected to perform library services efficiently, and serve library users courteously, promptly, and in accordance with the Public Services Division’s values of approachability, cooperation, diversity and inclusion, professionalism, and excellent quality of work.
The work schedule for this position is Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. This schedule is subject to change, based on changes in library hours and staffing needs.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or related experience at the substitution rate of 30 college credits to one year of experience.
One year of experience directly related to the primary duties of this position: customer service, nature and functions of libraries; knowledge of search strategies and database searches; organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
Ability to work independently, initiate and implement projects, and exercise initiative in applying rules, procedures, and instructions.
Ability to contribute to and maintain an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful work environment.
Demonstrated ability to work professionally with diverse individuals
Demonstrated ability to understand and apply principles of quality. customer service and teamwork.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience creating documentation for training purposes
Experience working as a liaison between two or more units or programs
Demonstrated familiarity and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite applications (e.g., G-mail, Google Docs, & Google Calendar)
Experience using an integrated library system
Experience working with college-age population
This is a full-time position Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. & Friday from 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
