Responsibilities:
We seek an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented individual to work as a STEM subject librarian and to provide general reference assistance to the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) community. Duties include providing library instruction, outreach, collection development, and research support. Outreach efforts will have particular emphasis on graduate students and the Graduate School. This position reports to the Head of Reference & Instruction.
This position serves as subject librarian to a number of academic departments in the Colleges of Natural and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering and Information Technology. Exact liaison responsibilities will be dependent on the successful
candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Duties include providing library instruction, outreach, collection development, and research support to students, faculty and staff. Outreach efforts within this role will have particular emphasis on graduate students, and this position will act as a point of contact for outreach efforts related to the Graduate School.
As part of a department of six faculty librarians (including an additional STEM librarian) and one professional staff, this position provides general reference service to the campus community and participates in the planning and implementation of departmental and Library operations. As an instruction librarian, this position designs and delivers library instruction and contributes to the planning and implementation of the Library’s Instructional Program.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in relevant professional development, scholarship, and campus and Library committee work.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or a non-US equivalent (by the start of employment)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability and interest in providing dynamic library instruction and contributing to a team-based information literacy program.
- Demonstrated ability and interest in the areas of library public services and outreach.
- Ability to initiate and lead projects to completion.
- Interest and/or experience working with diverse populations, particularly students.
- Demonstrated high-quality written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Undergraduate or advanced degree in a STEM discipline strongly preferred.
- Reference experience in an academic library setting strongly preferred.
- Direct teaching or library instruction experience strongly preferred
Salary & Benefits: This position is a 12-month library faculty appointment at an anticipated rank of Librarian I or II. Rank at appointment is based on the successful applicant’s
experience and relevant credentials. Minimum salary for Librarian I is $49,000 and for Librarian II is $63,000. Comprehensive faculty benefits are included.
The successful candidate will be expected to meet library and university requirements for reappointment, promotion, and permanent status, as outlined in part 6.6 of the Faculty Handbook.
