<Title>Fall Harvest Dinner</Title>
<Tagline>Friends, Food, and Festivity!</Tagline>

    <div>Dear graduate students,<div><br></div>
    <div>The Graduate School at UMBC and the PROMISE program are partnering this year to host our Annual Fall Harvest Dinner and Networking event on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2021 from 4PM to 6PM in person on the UMBC campus in the Commons Building, 3rd floor, Skylight Room. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Wc call this even a Fall Harvest Dinner to celebrate all that has been planted, sowed, and harvested this past year -in reality and symbolically. Of course, our event occurs very close to November when many American families celebrate a "Thanksgiving" meal. The Thanksgiving tradition often includes sharing foord and verbal expressions of gratitude for what we have in our lives. Our PROMISE staff understands that this national holiday also has roots in a darker history, one of colonialism and the massacre of hundreds and thousands of indigenous Americans. Thus, we will be choosing to incorporate some non-traditional elements into out Fall Harvest celebration: we will pay our respects to the indigenous peoples of this land and their beautiful, deep connection to mother nature and celebrate the diversity of our community. We hope this time together will be an opportunity to connect with grad student from other departments and share a delicious dinner with our peers. We hope you are available to join us!</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>This year the number of participants will be limited due to COVID-19 protocol, <strong>please make sure to RSVP for the event</strong>. In addition, the dress code for this occasion is business casual and <strong>masks are required to enter the building and must be worn when not eating.</strong> Bring your ticket and student ID to enter the event!</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>It is possible that this event will sell out. Please check the reservation links provided to see if tickets are still available. Even if tickets are sold out, there is an option to be waitlisted for this event which can also be found using the reservation link.</strong></div>
    <div><strong><br></strong></div>
    <div>Tickets can be reserved at <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2021-umbc-promise-fall-harvest-dinner-networking-reception-registration-209959643947" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">this link</a> or at the ticket link provided. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at <a href="mailto:promise@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">promise@umbc.edu</a>.</div>

    <div>During a virtual meeting organized by the Graduate Student Association on Thursday, a malicious hacker carried out a virtual attack on the zoom meeting. The hacker was able to get complete control of the room and wrote anti-black hate speech on the presentation slide, espoused religious hate, and controlled the accounts of several attendees to make it appear as though they were saying racist and homophobic things. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>The hacker also targeted one graduate student in particular with anti-black hate speech using direct messages. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>The Graduate Student Association stands behind the victims of this hack, especially the student that appears to have been targeted by their vile actions. We also stand behind the Black Graduate Student Organization and support their advocacy of black graduate students that have to deal with these repeated traumas.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Students who may have been negatively affected by the hackers homophobic statements can also reach out for support to the i3b's Pride Center through Lucy Delgado (<a href="mailto:ldelgado@umbc.edu">ldelgado@umbc.edu</a>). </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>As organizers of the event we feel tremendous sadness and responsibility for what has occurred. The GSA is working with university offices to seek justice, prevent this from occurring again and support all those affected. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>The GSA condemns the continuing rise of hate and is here to remind students of the <a href="https://gsa.umbc.edu/resources-2/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">resources</a> available to support us. We look forward to coming together soon to offer a space for community support. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us to let us know how we can best support you. </div>

    <p>FROM:<span>            </span>Michael T. Walsh, Director, Office of Sponsored Programs</p>
    <p>RE:<span>                  </span>OSP Winter Break Deadlines: Dec. 24, 2021 – Jan. 2, 2022</p>
    <p><span>________________________________________________________________</span></p>
    <p><span>This is a special announcement concerning the OSP schedule for reviewing/approving proposals with deadlines to federal, state, and other agencies that occur during UMBC’s Winter Break this year.<span> </span></span></p>
    <p><span>Please note the following:</span></p>
    <ol>
    <li>
    <span>All proposals with submission <strong><u>deadlines occurring between Friday December 24, 2021 and Monday January 2, 2022</u></strong> must be fully routed, ready for submission, and release</span>d<span> to the OSP office for final review and submission by the close of business on <span> </span>Friday <strong><u>December 17, 2021</u></strong>; and</span>
    </li>
    <li>All proposals with submission <strong><u>deadlines occurring between Monday January 3rd and Wednesday January 5th, 2022</u></strong> (the first 3 business days after the break) will be due to OSP by 9 AM on <strong><u>December 20, 2021.</u></strong>
    </li>
    </ol>
    <p>This schedule is consistent with our current policy, which requires the submission of complete proposals to OSP at least three <strong>(3)</strong> business days before the agency submission deadline. Since UMBC is closed during the Winter Break, OSP will also be closed. </p>
    <p>The campus closure during Winter Break will cause a heavy workload on OSP staff, so we will enforce our current policy more consistently.  Proposals received after the OSP deadlines specified above will be reviewed on a first-come/first-serve basis and will be submitted only if time permits.  In keeping with the deadline enforcement policy of OVPR, any proposal not fully routed and ready for submission by 9:00 a.m. of the deadline date will not be submitted to the agency.  If the deadline occurs over Winter Break, this deadline is the last working day before the break (12/23/21).</p>
    <p>Thank you for your understanding<span>.</span></p>
    <p>Best Regards,</p>
    <p>Dr. Michael T. Walsh<br>Director<br>Office of Sponsored Programs<br><a href="mailto:mwalsh3@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">mwalsh3@umbc.edu</a></p>
