<Title>Borders Imagined, Borders Constructed: UMCP conference</Title>

    <p>The University of Maryland - College Park's Graduate Student History Conference will be held on February 21, 2020 in College Park, MD. This year's conference will be tackling issues surrounding borders, broadly construed. What are they? How are they created? How are they maintained? What influences do borders exert on the people or environment they occupy?</p>
    <p>Keynote speaker is Sandra Enriquez of the University of Missouri-Kansas City who specializes in Chicanx and Latinx history, particularly urban history, borderland, and social movements. She is the Director of the Public History Emphasis.</p>
    <p>Submissions are welcome from various fields, geographies, and time periods, which address any and all aspects surrounding borders. <br></p>
    <p>Proposals of 300 words or less, along with a CV, should be send to <a href="mailto:umdgradhisconference@gmail.com">umdgradhisconference@gmail.com</a> by December 31, 2019.</p>

    <div>The Office for Academic &amp; Pre-Professional Advising is still accepting applications for Winter Orientation. If you are interested and available to support the Winter Orientation programs, please submit an application to indicate your availability.</div>

    <div>Each session, UMBC brings both new freshmen and transfer students to campus for Course Selection Day, a one day orientation program designed to acclimate new students to campus and register them for classes. The Office for Academic &amp; Pre-Professional Advising coordinates the academic advising component of Course Selection Day. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>As part of Orientation, the Office for Academic &amp; Pre-Professional Advising recruits faculty, staff, and graduate students from all academic departments on campus to assist in advising and registering new students. These Orientation Advisors, assist in the overall provision of academic advising and registration assistance to the entirety of UMBC’s entering undergraduate population.</div>

<Title>Landry Digeon Successfully Presents</Title>

    <span>LLC is pleased to announce that Landry Digeon, of 
    LLC Cohort 15, successfully and skillfully presented his dissertation 
    research proposal to his full committee on October 23, 2019. His topic is 
    titled, “From NYC to Paris. Crime TV Series Adaptations: A Multimodal Digital Semiotics Procedure."</span><br><br><span>After Landry’s presentation, he and his committee had a substantive 
    discussion surrounding his topic and methodological approach. They 
    determined that the project was worthy of doctoral study and provided 
    useful advice on how to move forward with his research.<span> </span></span><br><br><div><span>Many thanks to Landry’s committee members:</span></div>
