This challenge seeks to promote new quantitative approaches to synthesizing and analyzing data and evidence obtained from African public health surveys, longitudinal observational studies, clinical trials, and other relevant data sources – including combined datasets – to produce novel insights that can be used to improve maternal and child health in the African context and around the world.     <p><span>The Global Financing Facility (GFF), in partnership with Laerdal Global Health and the Government of Norway, has launched a </span><a href="http://response.notifications.gatesfoundation.org/t?r=198&amp;c=4176940&amp;l=422163&amp;ctl=4E99E19:A83F421741FEC84734E8D0AD128A2D03B45F2A1AE0A5AB66&amp;" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Call for Proposals</span></a><span> from organizations which can accelerate uptake of proven innovations to reduce maternal and newborn mortality around the time of birth and in the immediate postnatal period. In collaboration with national governments, the goal is to demonstrate and document how accelerated and sustainable delivery of such innovations will help countries achieve the life-saving impacts required to meet ambitious maternal and newborn mortality targets and, through this, facilitate further implementation across relevant GFF countries. Five grants are expected to be awarded through this Call, each with an expected implementation period of three years from inception of activities.</span></p></span><span><p><span><br></span></p>

    <p><span>The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has established a special Fund, known as the Science, Technology and Innovation </span><a href="https://www.isdb-engage.org/en/challenge/call-for-innovation-via-transform-fund-2019" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Transform Fund</span></a><span> (IsDB-STIF) to support its Member Countries in finding practical solutions to their key development challenges through the power of innovation. The Transform Fund is a multi-million-dollar fund that provides seed money for innovators, startups and SMEs to develop their ideas and compose a strong business proposal. </span></p></span><span><p><span><br></span></p>

<Title>Congratulations to Susan Sterett!</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>Congratulations to Susan Sterett for her recent award from the National Science Foundation. Professor Sterett intends to use the award to <span>hold  a workshop to be held at the beginning of the 2019 WPSA conference. A key component will be a session on managing conflict and improving our lives in the academy, facilitated by a professional from a university office on diversity and inclusion.  The workshop will close with brainstorming some of the challenges people find in the profession, including managing rejection, and brainstorming what gatekeepers can do.  </span></p></div>

All students should be in touch with their program advisor to obtain course permission prior to registering for any classes.<br>

    <div>Please note that graduate students will be allowed to register for Fall 2019 classes next week, based on the following schedule:</div>

    <div>Monday, April 1, 9:30 am - students with 49 or more credits</div>
    <div>Monday April 1, 1:30 pm - students with 37 or more credits</div>
    <div>Tuesday, April 2, 9:30 am - students with 25 or more earned credits</div>
    <div>Wednesday, April 3 - 9:30 am - students with 12 or more earned credits</div>
    <div>Thursday, April 4 - students with fewer than 12 earned credits <br>
