<Title>Sept. 21, 2016: Northrop Grumman Future Technical Leaders Program (FTL) Recruiting Session at UMBC</Title>

    <p><span>Are you a University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) student who is interested in teaching?</span></p>
    <p><img src="https://promiseagep.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/event.png?w=630" alt="event.PNG" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></p>
    <p><span><strong>Northrop Grumman </strong>will be on the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) campus to provide information about their <strong>Future Technical Leaders Program</strong> (FTL)- </span><span><span>a professional development opportunity aimed at identifying and investing in Northrop Grumman’s next generation of technologists, engineers, architects and leaders.</span></span></p>
    <p><span><span>The FTL Program is seeking talented STEM MS and PhD 2016-2017 graduates from UMBC interested in learning more about their exclusive three year rotational program working side-by-side with senior technical management. It’s the chance of a lifetime—one that only a few receive. To be eligible for the FTL Program, you must be at the top of your class in a Master’s or Doctoral program. Due to the classified nature of the work, you must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a security clearance.</span></span></p>
    <p>Selected individuals spend three years working on a variety of critical projects that provide specialized training, networking opportunities, mentoring by senior technologists, and management visibility.</p>
    <p><span><span><span><strong>Northrop Grumman will be selecting UMBC candidates to interview from this event!</strong>  </span></span><u>Please bring resumes with you</u>.</span></p>

    <p>The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Students to Service Loan Repayment Program (S2S LRP) is providing <span><strong>$120,000</strong> to medical (MD and DO) or dental (DDS or DMD) students in their final year of school</span> in return for a commitment to provide primary health care full time for at least 3 years at an approved NHSC site in a Health Professional Shortage Area of greatest need.</p>

<Title>Accepting Applications: CAHSS Dean's Research Fund</Title>

    <p>The CAHSS Dean’s Research Fund (CDRF) provides a biannual (proposals due Oct 1 and Apr 1) competitive funding opportunity for up to $5,000 to support the research endeavors of CAHSS tenured and tenure-track faculty and lecturers. Funds will support developing or established scholarly and creative projects. Faculty on visiting or short-term appointments are not eligible to apply. Awarded funds will be available through the end of the fiscal year following the award year. After completion of the grant term, awardees must provide evidence of work produced and a short report describing how funds were spent and how any equipment purchased has been designated for continued College use.</p>
    <p>Items that are eligible for CDRF funding include: travel, equipment, supplies, books, research participant costs, undergraduate or graduate student support, and other items necessary for research endeavors. No faculty salary support or course releases may be funded through this initiative. Funds supporting this initiative are provided by the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.</p>
    <p>Applications will be reviewed by the CAHSS Research Advisory Committee, which will make recommendations to the Dean. Proposals will be judged on: the quality of the proposed project, feasibility of the work, and how the project will benefit from CDRF assistance.</p>
    <p>Limit one application per faculty member per funding cycle. Limit one award per faculty per two years.</p>

<Title>Then &amp; Now, #5: PAHB in Progress, 2011 &amp; 2016</Title>

    <p>Five summers ago, the Performing Arts &amp; Humanities Building was a construction site. The outlines of what would become the atrium, the Proscenium Theatre, the Black Box Theatre, the Dresher Center, classrooms and offices were visible. Other parts of the present-day building, including the Dance Cube and the Earl and Darielle Linehan Concert Hall, had not yet started to take shape.</p>
    <p>Here are photo pairs taken from the same spots in August 2011 and September 2016.</p>

He is also currently the Senior Research Scientist at UMBC Office of the Vice President for Research. Dr. Frascella has almost 30 years of combined experiences as the Director of the Division of Neuroscience and Behavioral Research, the Chief of the Clinical Branch of NIDA, and the Research Program Director of NIDA at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).</span>

    <span>PROMISE AGEP welcomes all graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to our Grant Writing Seminar. </span><span>Dr. Joseph Frascella, Senior Science Advisor to the Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), will be providing tips on how to write grants. He is also currently the Senior Research Scientist at UMBC Office of the Vice President for Research. Dr. Frascella has almost 30 years of combined experiences as the Director of the Division of Neuroscience and Behavioral Research, the Chief of the Clinical Branch of NIDA, and the Research Program Director of NIDA at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).</span>
