Are you interested in earning some extra cash this upcoming semester? You should look into becoming a professor’s assistant!
Most professors have busy lives, and often need help with basic tasks like filing papers, sending out emails, and other things like that.
This spring semester will be the debut of the new position. Many students had common complaints among various professors, so this position is an attempt to try and fix some of those issues.
Certain professors are looking for a very specific and highly developed skill set to assist them in the classroom, such as “able to pronounce weird foreign names” and “understands how Blackboard works”. Another professor wants student assistants to “write on the board” or “change the slides for the overhead projector”. This specific professor has no grasp of modern technology, and thinks “Siri” is a lake in Pakistan.
The most common skill requests for a PA from the student body are “ability to keep professors on-task, and not go off onto stupid tangents” and “explaining what a professor REALLY means”.
