It's almost 2020. Jokes surrounding having 20/20 vision, the John Mulaney joke about "2029" (which we all know isn't a real year), Trump's impeachment, the death of MBC News's radio broadcast (RIP), and many other instances that will mark the hallmarks of a historic decade.
I started at UMBC in Fall 2014, graduated May 2018. Now working full time, and started Graduate School. To prevent myself from needing to download Microsoft Outlook, I routed all emails to redirect to my UMBC email. This made me go down memory lane, look back at my time at UMBC, and wanted to leave a few words of wisdom for the next generation. Or, the ramblings of an old woman on the antiquated forum of MBC News whose glory days are long gone.
Enjoy your time in college. It is NOT inherently easy, despite what others tell you. You are surrounded by those who are willing to learn, adapt, and listen to what people from other walks of life are telling them. There is a diverse community of people surrounding you who will challenge your current mindset and worldview.
Your time at UMBC, despite the propaganda of "Up and Coming", "We won one (1) basketball game that actually mattered", and "Give us All your Money", will help shape who you are for the next several years. Make sure the legacy you leave is one you WANT to leave.
I believe I've left a legacy, despite my best attempt. What are you leaving?
