Position Summary

Position:

Art Handler/Installer/Driver responsible for the proper handling, loading, unloading, wrapping and transport of artwork in our fast paced art gallery. Other responsibilities include assisting in hanging the gallery, handling & installing artwork on in home/office appointments, preparing artwork for inter gallery transfers, traveling between our four locations.

Successful candidates must be motivated and responsible, have an excellent/clean driving record and be able to pass D.O.T. medical exam. Carpentry skills are a plus.

The Digital & Database Associate reports to the Director of Advancement and works within a team that is tasked with creating, managing, and executing a unified strategy for institutional development, including all activities related to short-term and long-term advocacy, fundraising, marketing, and public relations. The position also works with other staff and Board committees that oversee advancement functions. Key goals include:

• Ensure efficient, accurate maintenance and administration—including training—for the organization’s customer relationship management (CRM) database
• Ensure the timely and engaging creation, posting, and updating of content to social media and website in alignment with brand and design guidelines
• Support the Department of Advancement administratively to ensure fundraising and communications goals are met

The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) seeks a Program Manager for the Baltimore Creatives Acceleration Network (B/CAN), a new 10 year city-wide initiative providing strategic and as needed, just in time support for arts entrepreneurs of all disciplines and backgrounds in an effort to foster a stronger, more equitable creative ecosystem and economy in Baltimore.

The B/CAN Program Manager will function as the lead logistics person for the effective delivery of all B/CAN programs, reporting directly to the Executive Director. We are looking for a highly collaborative, passionate, and detail-oriented person who can not only help make sure all programming runs smoothly, but will also contribute their ideas and passion for strengthening Baltimore’s creative community to the program.

The purpose of the PNC Scholars/Fellows Program is to provide awards up to $3,000 to outstanding UMBC students interested in becoming an entrepreneur.  This award is associated with UMBC’s Alex. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship.  The scholarship will be awarded for the 2017 - 2018 academic year. 

 The awards will be used as academic scholarships (up to $1,000), or as “seed funding” (up to $2,000) to launch new ventures or community based social entrepreneurship projects.  

CRITERIA:

Students interested in applying for this award should:

Ø  Submit a 1-2 page personal statement about their interest in entrepreneurship.  The statement should:

Ø  Describe the impact an academic scholarship will have on their future as an entrepreneur or social innovator or

Ø  Describe how the award money will be used as “seed funding” to launch a new venture, or “seed funding” to launch a community based social entrepreneurship project.  Submit a preliminary budget outlining anticipated expenses.

Ø  Submit an updated resume

Ø  Have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Gun Show: Handling, Questioning, Discussing

Dr. Kathy O’Dell opens her essay in the brochurethat accompanies Gun Show with this question: “How does it feel to hold a gun?” At an event on October 5, starting at 4:00 PM at the CADVC and then moving to the Fine Arts Amphitheater, attendees will have an opportunity to explore that question as they view and handle (if they so wish) a selection of David Hess’s sculptures/facsimile guns currently on display in his exhibition. As attendees participate in the viewing and handling, special guests will be present to facilitate small group discussions on many of the wide-ranging issues that arise around guns: who does or does not own them, who should or should not own them, whether or not to legislate them, safe ways to use them, ramifications of their use or misuse, and how issues of race, class, gender, and age are embedded in these questions.

Admission to the exhibition and all related programming is free and open to the public.

Humanities Forum / Music / MEMS (Medieval and Early Modern Studies) Colloquium Lecture

“Harmonious Monk: Martin Luther and His Reformation through Music”
Christopher Boyd Brown, Associate Professor of Church History, Boston University

Dr. Christopher Boyd Brown and UMBC’s Camerata and Collegium Musicum will present an interdisciplinary concert-lecture on Martin Luther’s use of music and the community practice of hymn-singing in the Protestant Reformation. Brown will discuss how Lutheran hymns, sung in the streets and homes as well as in community spaces, were central to the success of the Reformation. UMBC students will provide live musical examples of plainchant, Reformation hymns, and multi-part choral works by Walter and Bach.

The annual UMBC Idea competition is designed to challenge you to think about problems and opportunities all around us. If UMBC is one of the most innovative schools in the nation, then UMBC students are just the kind of innovators that can really change the world. This is your chance to make it happen.

Simply answer a handful of general questions regarding your idea on the entry form (video pitches are allowed, just link your video to your form). The top entries will be judged by a panel of professionals and alumni, along with a crowd of students on November 16, 2017, at the final competition in the Commons Sports Zone.

How to Enter

To enter the competition, complete the UMBC Idea Competition Entry Form, which asks you to describe a problem or opportunity, and describe your idea for addressing it. Submission forms will be limited to one page, so you will need to articulate the problem you have identified and your idea succinctly. You will also be allowed to post a video to YouTube in which you can personally pitch your idea to the campus. The videos are not required, but they are encouraged as an effective way to communicate ideas to the review committee. YouTube videos are limited to 60 seconds and creativity is encouraged. Videos longer than 60 seconds will not be considered by the judges.
