Organization Description:

Young Audiences of Maryland, Inc. (YA) envisions a day when every student in Maryland has the opportunity to imagine, create, and realize their full potential through the arts. Our mission is to transform the lives and education of our youth through the arts by connecting educators, professional artists, and communities. Collectively, the network reaches more than five million youth, educators, and families each year. Across the state of Maryland, YA serves over 183,000 students at nearly 425 schools, libraries, and community centers annually.

The Digital Harbor Foundation and Betamore are teaming up to assemble the Abilities Hackathon! During the weekend of April 22nd-24th, the Baltimore tech community will come together to help solve problems that those with disabilities face in everyday life. This event truly is about addressing the needs of those with disabilities.

Participants will have an opportunity to participate in the following four tracks:

   - Transportation/Mobility
   - Wearables
   - Leisure/Entertainment
   - Open Software/Hardware

Tickets are $20, which provides a T-Shirt as well as meals throughout the weekend.

For those that place, the individuals/teams will have time to touch up their products and present at a second showcase on May 25th. There will be a $5,000 grand prize winner announced.

The Art of Side Projects

Whether you call it a side project, gig, or moonlighting, there's never been a better time to take on a second job. But why do so many of us have side projects in addition to, or as a replacement for, our full-time work? Oftentimes, we can't explain why. It could be a passion project, service project, or any old project, so long as you have a vision and a means to make it happen. Jason Tselentis showcases a range of side projects and some methods for taking them from idea to reality.

About Jason

As associate professor of design at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Jason Tselentis teaches graphic design, typography, web design, and brand identity. He has four books to his credit, regularly writes for HOW and PRINT magazines, and is a contributing editor at PRINT.

Event Description:

Neil has worked for 30 years in the television production and motion picture industry and has learned a great deal about creativity. From delivering your resume, to making clients remember you, creativity is the key to everything. By sharing stories about his time editing and gripping in Hollywood, California and his decision to start his own television production company in Baltimore, Neil will convey valuable lessons about how to sell yourself properly.

About Neil:

Kit and Kaboodle Productions is an award winning video production team specializing in corporate and industrial videos, television commercial advertising and campaigns, web video production, creative design, copywriting, and marketing strategies. They help great businesses become even greater with targeted strategies, creative design, and of course, powerful video.

Position: Marketing Coordinator

This position is responsible for marketing and public relations at Baltimore Clayworks. The position works closely with the Development and Executive Director to design and implement an annual marketing plan and budget as well as develop strategic goals related advertising and public relations. The position requires demonstrated abilities to work effectively with a wide variety of people, excellent time and detail management skills, graphic design skills, communication skills both written and verbal, an ability to develop relationships with the media and graphic design skills. Baltimore Clayworks is currently looking at integrating additional online strategies into marketing and advertising, the Marketing Coordinator will take the lead on implementing new strategies and media in marketing efforts.

Position Description:

The Community Arts Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the administrative side of Baltimore Clayworks’ community arts programs. This is an administrative position with a direct service component. The position is responsible for overseeing all partner Memorandum of Understanding agreements, teaching artists and working closely with the Children’s Program Coordinator to develop and maintain a consistent pedagogy across Baltimore Clayworks programming for youth. The position requires demonstrated abilities to work effectively with a wide variety of people, excellent time and detail management skills, communication skills, and knowledge of and interest in ceramic and community arts.
