The CBIC Final Event
What a night! Last Thursday night, The Alex. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ABCEI) hosted its annual Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition. The 2023 event included seven finalist teams, which consisted of undergraduate and graduate students from various majors from UMBC. The Alex. Brown Center offered two tracks for students to enter: Technology & Innovation and Social Impact. Thank you to everyone who joined the ABCEI for this incredible night of community and good ideas! Reminder #1: The Alex. Brown Center and the Career Center have an amazing event for you! Join us for the Entrepreneurs Panel Discussion TODAY, April 17th, from 12-1pm in University Center 312.
This Entrepreneurs Panel event will feature three entrepreneurs from our community:
-Chandler Givens, Director of Product & Commercial Innovation at Avast
-Alaire Jameson '19 '20, Co-Founder & COO of Upfront Capital
-Amanda Ly '20, Founder & CEO of Opalescent Soul Garden Co.
During this presentation, each panelist will share about their entrepreneurial journey as well as answer questions from the audience. This is the perfect opportunity to learn from real entrepreneurs! FREE snacks will be provided AND we will be giving away FREE SHIRTS to everyone that attends the event!

The Dresher Center seeks an Associate Director to work closely with the Director and the Dresher Center team to shape and implement Dresher Center programs, grant proposals, and budget. The Associate Director will assist the Director in strategic decision making and shaping Dresher Center initiatives and goals. The Associate Director will also be responsible for serving in the Director’s place should the Director be unable to attend various Dresher Center activities or programs, or at university events or meetings.
Potential duties for the Associate Director include:
- Work with the Center Coordinator to schedule and coordinate Dresher Center workshops such as the "Currents: Works in Progress" series, and the Fellows and Others workshops (scheduling, recruiting/communicating with presenters, drafting/revising descriptions). Attend and facilitate workshops as needed.
- With the Dresher Center team, continue to offer HTLabs and other potential programs focused on public and community-engaged research/teaching.
- Participate in selecting speakers for the Humanities Forum. Attend, introduce speakers, and host meals as needed.
- Help establish and expand Dresher Center programming for undergraduates, in conjunction with both the Dresher Center Director and the Director of the Humanities Scholars Program.
- Assist in evaluating Dresher Center activities and writing the Dresher Center annual report.
- Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and quarterly Board meetings, participate in strategic planning and budgeting. Attend monthly CAHSS chairs and directors’ meetings.
- Assist in administering other center programs as needed.
Open to: Tenure track faculty in humanities fields (minimum: advanced assistant or already tenured). Preference to those who have been formally involved in Dresher Center programs (fellowships, advisory board, Inclusion Imperative programs, etc.)

The Alex. Brown Center and the Career Center have an amazing event for you! Join us for the Entrepreneurs Panel Discussion next Monday, April 17th, from 12-1pm in University Center 312.
This Entrepreneurs Panel event will feature three entrepreneurs from our community:
-Chandler Givens, Director of Product & Commercial Innovation at Avast
-Alaire Jameson '19 '20, Co-Founder & COO of Upfront Capital
-Amanda Ly '20, Founder & CEO of Opalescent Soul Garden Co.
During this presentation, each panelist will share about their entrepreneurial journey as well as answer questions from the audience. This is the perfect opportunity to learn from real entrepreneurs! The ABCEI's Speaker Series Event is TONIGHT!

Our next Speaker Series event will be held TONIGHT, Wednesday, April 12th from 5-6pm in Commons 331!
This event will feature Marion Vanzie & Tasha Sharif Vanzie. Marion is the Founder & Chief Executive Officer and Tasha is the Chief Strategy Officer of Agile Care Enterprises, LLC. During their presentation titled, "The Vanzie Alchemy: 7 Tips for Entrepreneurial Startup Success", Marion and Tasha will discuss their strategic partnership and process for choosing entrepreneurship as an enterprise model to achieve work-life balance.
