Paradise Route: Road Closure and Detours BGE Gas Line Replacement ~ Beginning - March 11, 2024.

Dear Paradise Route Riders,


We hope you're doing well. We wanted to let you know about an upcoming road closure on Maiden Choice Lane because of the replacement of the BGE gas line. The closure will be effective starting Monday, March 11, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM until the gas lines are replaced. Due to the detour, riders can expect a 5-10 minute delay.


The following bus stops will be affected during this period:

  • Stop 15: Maiden Choice La. & Wilkens Ave
  • Stop 16: Maiden Choice La. & Grand Bend Dr. (Wilkens Plaza)
  • Stop 17: Maiden Choice La. & Wilton Overlook

We are currently finalizing Data Validation, a crucial step to ensure the reliability of our transit system. Data validation and accuracy were significant issues with our previous provider, and our partners at Swiftly are working diligently to ensure that the General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) reflects our current schedules. We appreciate your patience and commitment to making our project a success. 

Trackers Project Timeline: Phase 4

Under each route schedule, you can find a temporary live link (provided by Samsara) to your bus's location. 

Our partners at the Transit App are on standby as we await the completion of the data validation. Below, you'll find a rendering of the upcoming Transit Royale feature in the Transit App. This milestone marks a significant achievement in enhancing our transit system for a more efficient and user-friendly experience.

The Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership (VITAL) program is a partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and UMBC to help veterans achieve their academic goals. The VITAL program is comprised of VA mental health professionals who can help both student veterans and their universities/colleges by providing and/or assisting with services, resources, and support. 

VITAL can assist with: 

  • Enrollment in VA healthcare.

  • VA and non-VA resources.

  • Academic accommodations.

  • Advocacy for student veterans.

  • Clinical services for veteran students dealing with various daily stressors, including attention issues, difficulty concentrating, stress, sleep problems, memory issues, anger/irritability, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and PTSD.

Additionally, VITAL can assist with:

  • Trainings for faculty/staff.

  • Consultation services for faculty/staff.

Dr. Daniel Koster is our on-campus psychologist for the VITAL program and will be on campus every Monday, beginning March 4, to meet with students, faculty, and staff. To schedule a meeting with Dr. Koster, please email him at Daniel.Koster2@va.gov.

Anyone can participate as long as you’re affiliated with UMBC! Students, professors, faculty, club, doesn’t matter.


Qualification: Just like last time, your submission must consist of 1 appetizer and 1 entree. While last year was exciting, to make it a little more interesting, your team must consist of 2 dishes with one of them being strictly vegetarian. In terms of the grading rubric, your recipe’s creativity, detail, ingredients, flavor and texture, and your use of a Retriever Essentials ingredient will determine if you’re picked! Notice (Super Important): On that day specifically, if you bring in a donation of any canned goods, snacks, etc. you can get into True Grits completely free. However, there are some things we can not take. These include…

  • Cans that don't have labels of what they are

  • Rotten/Spoiled food (Obviously)
