We are excited to announce that UMBC is participating in a research study to understand the experiences of informal (unpaid) student caregivers. An informal caregiver is someone who provides assistance with activities such as transportation, shopping, finances, bathing or dressing to a spouse, family member, friend or neighbor. Researchers are interested in understanding what
challenges students face while being a caregiver and what resources are most helpful to reach academic goals. You will receive an email in the next few weeks containing a link to the short survey. The survey should take less than five (5) minutes to complete.

Student caregiver participation will contribute greatly to our understanding of caregivers and help us identify new resources to assist students achieve their academic goals while being a caregiver.

Student caregiver participation is greatly appreciated to support this important research!

Heavy traffic and back-ups are expected entering Campus from 4:00pm to 6:30pm and from 10:00pm to 11:30pm. Please follow all police directions and use caution while traveling. Expect heavy pedestrian traffic in the area and remember to always yield to pedestrians. Avoid UMBC Boulevard and utilize alternative entrances/exits such as Hilltop Road, Walker Avenue, and Poplar Avenue.  

Transit Riders ~
Delays are expected on all transit routes during these times.  Due to the expected traffic congestion, UMBC Transit may not service stop #3. Hilltop Cir. & Commons Dr.; Riders are encouraged to utilize bus stops located at Park Rd. & Poplar Ave, Commons Dr. & Park Rd, and Administration Dr. Bus Shelter. Good afternoon Retrievers!


As you may have heard, on Monday, September 5, Baltimore City sent out an advisory for some residents to boil their water in response to the detection of E. coli in samples of the water supply to West Baltimore.


While the UMBC campus was not included in the advisory, we know that we have a large number of students who are living off campus and want to share information on  what to do and where to find water if you are living in an impacted area. General information is also available from the Centers for Disease Control. You can also check the Department of Public Works social media platforms, Twitter (@BaltimoreDPW), and Facebook, for updates as this situation develops.
