As we are wrapping up the semester and in celebration of our graduates, The Mosaic: Center for Cultural Diversity & The Pride Center for LGBTIA2+ Diversity with Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion & Belonging (i3b) would love to invite you and provide additional information for the 4th  Black & Latine/x Graduation and the 11th Lavender Graduation. If you've worked hard throughout the 2023-2024 academic year, you may be interested in receiving an award for your efforts! CelebratingOrgs is an annual end of year event where awards will be presented to honor and recognize student organizations for their valuable work at UMBC. The event is scheduled for May 2nd, 2024, from 7 pm-10 pm.

Nominations for awards, RSVPs, and visual content submissions are now OPEN! Student organizations can nominate their favorite organizations based on a series of categories. 

  • To nominate, simply complete the Award Nominations form.
    • Nominations for awards will close on March 29th, 2024 at 11:59 pm.
  • If you're a student officer who would like to attend CelebratingOrgs, you can register by completing the RSVP form.
Visual Content 
We're also opening up submissions of visual content from student organizations that will be displayed in a slideshow format during the event. Pictures and videos should be relevant to your student organization such as pictures or videos from your general body meetings, your large or small-scale events your student organization did over the 2023-2024 academic year!

In addition, we're looking for student organization leaders interested in recording short, 30-second to 1-minute video clips answering a question about their experience leading a student organization. These clips will be combined into one video screening that will be presented during CelebratingOrgs. If you're interested, please fill out the attached interest form below, and a Student Government Association officer will reach out to you for further steps!

About the Facilitator:

Zoonash Syed (She/Her/Hers) is a Senior Pre-Law Public Health major on the Administration track at UMBC. Outside of UMBC, she enjoys watching shows as well as listening to music. Zoonash believes that leadership is about setting a responsible example for her peers as well as encouraging those around her to speak their minds. Her goals as a Leadership Peer Facilitator is to promote the multiple perspectives of what leadership can entail. Aside from being a Leadership Peer Facilitator, Zoonash takes part in SGA as a Senator, and is doing research work that will be presented at URCAD.

Ice-Breaker: Are you a talker or a listener?
Although I’d argue both, I’d say I’m much more of a talker! I’m used to giving advice to my friends and providing comfort through words. However, I’ve learned that some people don’t appreciate this style of communication, and would prefer me to listen more. I hope to improve my listening skills more!

The Leadershops series consists of 1 hour workshops that focus on various student centered leadership-related topics facilitated by Campus Life staff and Leadership Peer Facilitators. This program aims to contribute to the leadership development and ongoing learning of UMBC undergraduate students.

   It is deeply important for me to share with you the resources available to the UMBC campus as we all process the DOJ and Title IX Investigation in our own way and on our own time. 

Please take care of yourself and others if you have the space and are in a place to do so.

"We are committed to creating and sustaining a culture that is safe and responsive to the needs of our community. This includes providing support services and resources to those who may have experienced trauma, or for whom these investigative findings are difficult to process. We have identified a host of resources to help support you through this difficult time, and we encourage anyone in our community—students, faculty, and staff—to reach out for support if needed. I also urge anyone at UMBC who experiences sexual misconduct, sex-based discrimination, or harassment to report it (online or by emailing ecr@umbc.com or calling 410-455-1717) so that we may investigate it and take appropriate action."
