Last call for the Assateague Island Campout!
If you would like to join the campout, you must sign up here by Wednesday, March 22nd.
Be aware: If you are driving, there is a $25 fee for a parking pass. I highly encourage carpooling to split the cost.
Lastly, keep in mind we are beach camping, and it will potentially be windy. Stakes do not work in the sand! Instead, bring several shopping bags to fill with sand. These can then be buried and will keep your tent on the ground.
Trip Details
We will be meeting at the ranger station at 12pm. If you are leaving from campus, the ranger station is about 2 and a half hours away. I recommend leaving early in case you hit traffic.
Cell service on the island can be sparse, please do not forget to check in with me and let me know when you will be arriving ahead of time.
As stated before, there will be no water available at the campsite. Everyone should bring at least a gallon of water with them for drinking and cooking. There will be chemical toilets at the site.
Assuming the site isn't already taken, we will be camping beach side.
Weather
As of Friday (3.17), the weather looks promising. Both Saturday and Sunday have a high in the upper 60s, though Saturday may be windy. (We will be on a beach, so bear in mind that a "calm" day can still be quite windy). Plan accordingly and wear layers. It will be getting into the low 40s at night so be sure to bring warm clothes to sleep in.
You are welcome to bring a bathing suit but I don't promise the water will be warm.
On Meals
Everyone will be responsible for bringing their own meals. This includes dinner at the campsite and breakfast Sunday morning. Please be mindful that any water you need for your meals will need to be packed in.
In addition, if you need heat for your meals be sure to plan accordingly. Natural firewood will probably be scarce.
Officer Nominations
This is a reminder that nominations for positions in the Outdoor Recreation Club are still open. If you are interested in contributing to the club, please consider running for election here.
