<Title>Spring 2013 MechE Internship with Northrop Grumman</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Internships are a key strategy in the Electronic Systems (ES) sector college recruiting program.  Northrop Grumman offers a variety of challenging internships and co-ops for qualified students.<br> <br>This position offers the opportunity to work in the Hardware organization as part of the Test Engineering team.  The position consists of lower level design work, configuration updates and control, and assisting on engineering projects with some hands on work.  Ability to multi-task, organize small projects, and use tools is a plus.  Experience using MS Office tools, and some experience with CAD/CAM design tools, specifically Siemens NX (Unigraphics) will be helpful.<br> <br>Basic Qualifications:<br>Candidates must meet the following criteria:<br>Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor's degree (or higher level) college/university program;<br>Majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering;<br>Have at least a 2.8 (out of 4.0) overall GPA;<br>Registered with their respective college or university co-op office;<br>Available to work 15-19 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the Spring 2013 Semester.<br>US Citizenship required for this position<br><br>Preferred Qualifications:<br>Candidates that have completed at least their sophomore year of a Mechanical Engineering major are preferred.<br>Experience with MS Office tools and some experience with CAD/CAM design tools, specifically Siemens NX (Unigraphics)<br>Solid communication  and organizational skills evidenced by experience organizing small projects.</div>

    interested in understanding:<br>- What is the latest thinking on the use of
    stylus/handwriting on the i-pad?<br>- At what age is it appropriate to have students
    use keyboards (regular and virtual)?<span><span><span><br>- </span></span></span>Does it make sense to use the virtual keyboard
    with students or is it more appropriate to include a traditional external
    keyboard?<span><span><span><br>- 
    </span></span></span>Is there a difference in fluency or
    comprehension when reading from a screen vs. reading from paper<br>- Work
    with the program manager for language arts to demonstrate how the research
    findings are relevant to Sylvan’s programs.

    Program Manager on the current instructional technology project, develop a
    research review that supports the use of specific technologies and technology
    supported strategies in teaching supplemental study skills. In particular we
    are interested in understanding:</p>- What is the current thinking on the grade level
    at which to introduce study skills to students?<span> 
    </span>Are specific study skills more/less appropriate at certain grade levels?<span><span><span><br>- </span></span></span>The role of games as study tools<br>- The effectiveness of virtual flashcards vs.
    traditional flashcards.<br>- The importance of media/information literacy and
    internet-based digital literacy<br>- The degree to which 21<sup>st</sup> Century
    Skills are applicable and important for study skills in today’s classrooms,
    college, and beyond. Is the term 21<sup>st</sup> century skills used anymore?
    Is it being replaced with a new term?<br>- How college and career readiness relate to study
    skills. Relevant college readiness skills that can be taught in middle and high

    MM&amp;P has two publications: The Master, Mate &amp; Pilot magazine, 
    published six times a year, and The Wheelhouse Weekly, an electronic 
    newsletter distributed every Tuesday, 52 times a year. In addition, 
    MM&amp;P posts news for union members and others who are interested in 
    the American Merchant Ma-rine on its website, <a href="www.bridgedeck.org" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">www.bridgedeck.org</a>.<br>
      <br>
    The Communications Intern assists the Communications Director with 
    specific tasks associated with producing the editorial and photographic 
    content featured in the two publications and posted on the website. <br>
      <br>
    The Intern will gain experience in the areas of: writing; proofreading; 
    selecting, taking and scanning photographs for publication; and 
    interacting with union members and the general public.  <br>
      <br>
    The Intern reports to the Communications Director.<br><br>
    <strong>Duties and Responsibilities: </strong> <br>
    The following are some of the general duties and responsibilities of the Communications Intern.<br>
    •    Searches the Internet and known websites, or contacts known 
    sources, for maritime industry photographs (ships, etc.) for inclusion 
    in the union publications or posting on the website. <br>
    •    Works with the Communications Director and the Graphic Designer to 
    select an appropriate cover photo for each issue of the magazine.<br>
    •    Writes simple obituaries, pension notices and scholarship award 
    notices based on information provided by the union Health &amp; Benefit 
    Plans, as well as union members.<br>
    •    Updates an Excel spreadsheet with the names of subscribers to the 
    electronic newsletter and uploads the spreadsheet to the e-mail house on
     a weekly basis.<br>
    •    Works with organization contacts to monitor, update, and post to MM&amp;P Facebook page and Twitter account.<br>
    •    Maintains the Excel spreadsheet of “complimentary” subscriptions to the magazine.<br>
    •    Updates, on a weekly basis, the share prices of mutual funds for 
    inclusion in the weekly newsletter: the material is automatically 
    collected in a Yahoo “portfolio”: only requirement is to cut and paste.<br>
    •    Other duties and writing projects as assigned.<br>
      <br>
    <strong>Requirements and Skills:</strong><br>
    •    Very good writing and proofreading skills. <br>
    •    Attention to detail.<br>
    •    Knowledge and skill with standard computer programs.<br>
    •    Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to present information clearly, concisely, and effectively.<br>
    •    Familiarity with and a proclivity to use social media.<br>
      <br>
    <strong>Qualifications:</strong><br>
    •    Communications, Journalism, Graphic Arts or Marketing major. <br>
    •    Junior, Senior or Graduate student preferred.<br>
