<Title>Several AmeriCorps VISTA positions available</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><br><strong>1.  The Maryland Out of School Time (MOST) Network</strong> is currently recruiting fifteen (15) self motivated candidates who are passionate about youth development and committed to fighting poverty to serve for one year as an AmeriCorps VISTA supporting after school and summer programs. <br><br>MOST VISTAs are placed throughout the state to focus on the following areas:<br>1) Increasing access to STEM learning opportunities<br>2) Eliminating youth hunger and improving health in children and families<br>3) Expanding opportunities for youth who have the least access to out of school time programs, including low income and minority youth, youth with disabilities, and older youth.  <br> <br>MOST VISTA members have the opportunity to participate in and co-design extensive training and professional development throughout their service year.<br>Please spread the word and apply immediately - positions will be filled no later than July 14th, 2014.<br> <br>For more information, contact Abby Becker, VISTA Coordinator, Maryland Out of School Time Network, <a href="abecker@mdoutofschooltime.org" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">abecker@mdoutofschooltime.org</a><br><br><br><strong>2.  Patuxent Research Refuge </strong>position begins this summer and would primarily be working on the Urban Refuge Partnership at Masonville Cove in Baltimore and in surrounding communities.     <div class="html-content">The Shriver Center's Choice Program is currently recruiting for  several <strong>AmeriCorps Community Service Learning Fellowship</strong>s opening throughout the Greater Baltimore region.  <br><br>The Choice Program is a community-based, family-centered case management 
    approach to delinquency prevention and youth development. Focusing on 
    providing support in at-risk environments, The Choice Program empowers 
    youth and engages families through a multitude of services adapted to 
    individual needs. The program seeks to foster resiliency in young people

    <div class="html-content"><div><span>I</span><span>nspired by gatherings in the 1990’s of institutions of higher education through a Learn &amp; Serve America grant facilitated by The Shriver Center, </span><span>UMBC hosted “Solutions Through Service" in 2008.  </span><span>Subsequent conferences were hosted by the University of Baltimore, Towson University, Stevenson University, and Coppin State University.  </span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><p><span>In its return to UMBC, the 2013 “Getting Real About Civic Engagement” conference connected students, staff, faculty, and community partners throughout the Maryland-D.C. region. Dr. Freeman Hrabowski (</span><span>President, UMBC<em>)</em></span><span> and George Mehaffy (</span><span>Vice President for Academic Leadership and Change, American Association of State Colleges and Universities),</span><span> provided valuable context and vision to dig deep to develop socially engaged citizens.   Workshops deepened learning and connections. Colleagues in service shared their experiences and some received awards for their dedication.     <div class="html-content"><div><div><strong>                     Be the Change You Wish to See in the World!</strong><div><h6>                                 <img src="http://www.blog.volunteerkalamazoo.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/AmericorpsVista.jpg" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></h6><h6><strong>Apply to become a Maryland-DC Campus Compact (MDCCC) AmeriCorps VISTA with UMBC's Service-Learning Program!</strong></h6><h6><strong><br></strong></h6><h6><strong><p>Through partnership with the Maryland-Washington, DC Campus Compact (MDCCC), the AmeriCorps VISTA position will provide leadership in the design and implementation of the Service-Learning &amp; School-Family Connections MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA project and will serve as the liaison between UMBC and its school partner, Arbutus Middle School.  The MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA will meet with teachers and administrators to devise a plan for increasing student engagement in Arbutus Achievers and will create surveys and assessments to ensure that data is measured on a regular basis.  The Information Workshops for parents will address the school’s commitment to provide school-family support.  The MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA will meet with school administrators and parents to create a curriculum plan for the sessions that she or he will also implement and facilitate; surveys and other assessments will be created to ensure that data from sessions is assessed.  The MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA will also recruit UMBC students to participate in service-learning activities that leverage the resources of the campus to meet the volunteer needs of local community programs.   </p><p></p><p><strong></strong></p><h6><strong><u><strong><p><strong><u><br></u></strong></p></strong></u></strong></h6><p><strong><span><u>What is AmeriCorps VISTA?</u></span></strong></p><p><strong></strong></p></strong></h6><h6></h6><h6><strong><ul><li>AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. </li><li>VISTA members serve as full-time volunteers, organizing and implementing programs that build the capacity of organizations while making resources available to communities in need.</li></ul><p></p><p><strong></strong></p><h6><strong><strong><p><strong><span><br></span></strong></p></strong></strong></h6><strong><u>What are the benefits of serving as an MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA?</u></strong><ul><li>The VISTA member will receive health insurance, a travel allowance (for work-related meetings and events), and a taxable living allowance of approximately $13,000 for their year of service.</li><li>After successfully completing the service year, the VISTA will be eligible to receive either $1,200 in cash or an AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,550 that can be used toward the repayment of student loans or school tuition.  </li></ul><p></p><p><strong></strong></p><h6><strong><u><strong><p><strong><u><br></u></strong></p></strong></u></strong></h6><strong><u>What are the eligibility requirements to be a VISTA?</u></strong><ul><li>A Bachelor’s Degree and driver’s license is required by the start of the VISTA year.</li><li>Commitment to provide one year of full-time service (6/23/14-6/24/14).  </li><li>Desire to work on-campus and with a local school partner to combat poverty.</li></ul><p></p><p><strong></strong></p><h6><strong><u><strong><p><strong><u><br></u></strong></p></strong></u></strong></h6><strong><u>How can I apply?</u></strong><strong><ul><li><strong><strong>To apply for the AmeriCorps VISTA program, click the link: </strong></strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><div><a href="https://my.americorps.gov/mp/listing/viewListing.do?id=53481&amp;fromSearch=true" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">https://my.americorps.gov/mp/listing/viewListing.do?id=53481&amp;fromSearch=true</a> and apply by Sunday April 6th.</div></strong></strong></strong></strong></li></ul><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Have Questions?
