<Title>Exploration Opportunity for STEM Grad Students &amp; Post-Docs</Title>

    <div class="html-content">On December 9, 2013, the New York Academy of Sciences and PepsiCo will host a special Journey through Science Day at the Academy's headquarters in New York City. Fifty exceptional students and early career scientists (MS, PhD, postdoc) will be selected for this unique opportunity to interact with PepsiCo's R&amp;D leadership, learn about their efforts to develop products rooted in science-based nutrition, and get an exclusive glimpse of how science has shaped their careers.     computer-adaptive Graduate Records Examination. The purpose of the 
    course is to improve students' performance on the GRE by:</p>
                <ul><li>Providing students with successful test management techniques
    		      </li><li>Familiarizing students with question types specific to the GRE   
                  </li><li>Teaching the logical, rhetorical, and mathematical problem-solving techniques   relevant to the GRE   
                  </li><li>Teaching essential grammatical and mathematical concepts and techniques in   application to real test problems   
                  </li><li>Identifying the specific problems posed by the GRE, and analyzing common test-taking   errors
                  </li><li>Improving performance and reducing test anxiety through practice testing                            
                </li></ul>
    
    		    <p>This workshop is taught by Dr. Anthony Poplawski, who has 
    helped thousands of students perform better on their GRE examinations. 
    While this workshop provides participants with very valuable 
    information, techniques and strategies for maximizing their potential on
     the GRE, please note that it does not replace studying. In addition to 
    taking this workshop we recommend that students dedicate significant 
    time to studying for the examination in order to be truly prepared.</p>

    <div class="html-content"><blockquote><div><div><div><strong>AVAILABLE POSITIONS:</strong><p>UMBC STEM Initiative (USI) is an out-of-school time program for 1st-4th graders at Lakeland Elementary Middle School, created with two things in mind:  students' academic and personal growth.  <br></p><br>USI has four Fellows positions to fill:<br><ul><li>2 Fellows serve on Mondays &amp; Wednesdays, 2:30-6:30 pm</li><li>2 Fellows serve on Tuesdays &amp; Thursdays, 2:30-6:30 pm. <br></li></ul>Ideally, applicants would be available on BOTH days.  Lakeland Elementary Middle School is located in South Baltimore, 15 minutes from UMBC.  Preference is given to applicants who can commit to the full 27-week program calendar:  September 30-December 12, 2013 and January 6-May 16, 2014. <br></div><div><br></div><div><strong>STIPENDS:</strong></div><div>A stipend of $2200 is offered for fulfillment of the total commitment, 8 hours per week for 27 weeks.  Fellows will be enrolled in The Shriver Center's 096 Community Service &amp; Learning Leadership Practicum.  All majors are welcomed, those with STEM majors are strongly encouraged.  This is also a great opportunity for aspiring elementary teachers who could strengthen their science and math skills by being paired with Fellows who have STEM backgrounds.  Graduate students are welcomed to apply!</div></div></div></blockquote><div><div><div><div><br>

    <div class="html-content">STX, a global sporting goods leader in lacrosse, field hockey, ice 
    hockey, and golf, is looking for their next spring 2014 intern!  You

     This internship will equip you to perform in your future career by 
    providing you with real sports marketing experience and exposure. You’ll

    include attending photo shoots, sales meetings and sporting events.<br>

     Besides getting your hands dirty prepping and coordinating for game

    You don’t have to be an athlete to apply, but you must have a love for 
    the game and sports. STX athletes are ‘Equipped to Perform’ on the field
     and with this internship you’ll be Equipped to Perform in your future 
    professional career. We never stop innovating and we’re looking for 
    someone who exhibits that same passion and insatiable curiosity. To be 
    considered, you must be:<br>

    ·      Enrolled in your Junior or Senior year of a bachelor’s program at
     an accredited college or university in Maryland for the Spring 2014 
    semester<br>
    <br>
    ·      A Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, or related major<br>
    <br>
    ·      Available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week and be available from the start of the spring semester through June 6th<br>
    <br>
    ·      Able to provide your own transportation to STX headquarters in Baltimore, MD<br>
    <br>
    ·      18 years of age or older<br>

    <strong>Entry Dates:</strong><br>
    <br>
    To apply, create a video (60 seconds or less) explaining what makes you 
    “Equipped to Perform” as the 2014 STXtreme Intern. We want to see your 
    personality, so get creative and make sure you include why you are the 
    best fit for the STX brand.  Then go to STX’s Facebook page

    Contest” tab to complete the form to upload your video entry.<br>

<Title>Intern w/Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><strong><span>Mindfulness with Middle
    School Students!</span></strong></p>
    
    <p></p>
    
    <p></p>
    
    <p><span>Our
    research team is studying whether a mindfulness and yoga program promotes
    positive outcomes for middle school students. This three-year study in 6
    Baltimore City public schools is assessing whether a mindfulness and yoga
    program helps students cope with stress and reduces their use of alcohol and
    drugs. We are now in the final year of the study and are collecting data from
    7th and 8th graders.</span></p>
    
    <p></p>
    
    <p><span>We are
    looking for individuals to join our research team and help us conduct
    assessments. Assessments include surveys for students and teachers, brief
    cognitive tests for students, and physiological measures from students,
    including blood pressure and lung capacity. </span></p>
    
    
    
    <p><span>No prior
    training is required. </span></p>
    
    
    
    <p><span>Study
    activities will occur <strong>October – December
    2013</strong>. We are looking for:</span></p>
    
    <ul><li><span>A minimum commitment of 5 hours per week</span></li><li><span>Morning availability--most assessments will
         occur between 8-noon. It would be ideal if you were free Monday, Tuesday,
         and/or Thursday between 7:30-1.</span></li></ul>
    
    
    
    <p><span>Several
    research staff members will travel to schools together to conduct assessments.
    It’s not necessary to have a car but this would be a big help to the project.</span></p>
    
    
    
    <p><span>This is
    a terrific experience if you like working with kids and are interested in yoga/mindfulness
    or school-based research. You will get training in how to obtain informed
    consent and how to conduct assessments with urban youth and will receive

<Title>Aviation Internships: Freshmen Engineers welcome to apply!</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Each Fall, GE Recruiters come to campus for a GE Info Day and then return a few weeks later to interview students for co-op/intern positions at the GE businesses. This year, the GE Info Day is scheduled for October 2nd and the interview date will be Oct 17th. GE Aviation will be interviewing freshmen, sophomore, and junior mechanical engineering students for engineering and manufacturing positions at GE Aviation. GE Aviation is a high-technology business that provides challenging roles within a great working atmosphere. GE Aviation co-ops perform real engineering work from the start. Underclassmen are provided the opportunity to return for future co-op assignments. Co-ops approaching graduation are given the opportunity to interview for a permanent role. Additionally, the GE Aviation entry level programs are now filled by prior GE co-op students. These entry level programs provide new-hires with opportunities for rotating assignments and technical education before selecting a permanent role in the business.     <div class="html-content"><p>Nutramax Laboratories is a Maryland- and South Carolina-based
    nutraceutical company that develops dietary supplements for both humans and
    companion animals.<span>  </span>Nutraceuticals are natural
    dietary supplements that support healthy living.<span>  </span>The focus of the Research and Development
    laboratory at Nutramax is to examine the efficacy of raw materials used in our
    product, testing bioactivity of finished goods and support of the Product Development
    Department by examining the efficacy of potential blends of active ingredients
    for new products.<span>  </span><span> </span>In addition to <em>in vitro</em> assays, both human and animal studies are also carried out
    to support these initiatives.<span>  <br></span></p><p>Immunology Internship:<br></p><p>This
    internship position will focus primarily on the efficacy of an immune product
    on boosting the immune system.<span>   </span>The
    intern will identify biomarkers of a stimulated immune system and help to develop
    an assay to examine the effect of the active ingredients.<span>    </span>Some knowledge of quantitative real-time
    PCR, ELISAs and tissue culture sterile technique is preferred.<span>  </span></p>
    
    <p>Cellular Detoxification <br></p><p>This internship position will focus on the ingredients of a product line
    with an emphasis on cellular detoxification via the up-regulation of Phase II
    detoxifying enzymes.<span>  </span>The intern will
    help to develop techniques to demonstrate the efficacy of the ingredients using
    quantitative RT-PCR to examine gene expression and perform biochemical assays
    to study GST activity, glutathione levels and NQO1 activity in a tissue culture
    system.<span>  </span>Some knowledge of quantitative
