Web Development Intern

We are looking for a motivated, independent and collaborative individual to participate in a corporate career development program through our Customer Care Group.  Participants in this program are given opportunities to refine their problem solving skills; develop and hone their communication skills; work with varied internet technologies including web application servers, database servers, and web coding languages; and gain exposure to many aspects of the software business.

This important role links all areas of our business together, from the web developers who write the code to our trainers who explain how it works. You’ll be an essential part of our team through interaction with our clients to help them troubleshoot any technical questions. You’ll provide one on one support, so when they call; they have a live person to speak to...not an automated prompter that will drive them crazy.

What you’ll be doing:
•Providing our clients technical support and account management by phone and e-mail
•Researching and testing customer problems and questions
•Tracking of all support issues in an internal support system
•Documenting reproducible issues in the product bug database
•Supporting the Sales and Marketing team by assisting in product demonstrations
•Documenting solutions and techniques, making sure all information is available through technical notes and internal knowledge base
•Acting as  a point of contact and for our clients, providing support and communication through while issues are being resolved
•Compiling weekly reports to the SiteExecutive team on customer support activity

What you’ll need to get started:
•Bachelor’s Degree in progress

There is a small stipend for the position.  To be considered, candidates:

  1. Must be available Tuesdays AND Thursdays, 3-6:45 pm
  2. Be willing to transport other UMBC students in a 12-passenger Shriver Center van (and have a valid Driver's License)
  3. Support recruitment efforts to engage other UMBC students in this service site. 
  4. Attend Service-Learning Intern Meetings every other Friday, 12-1pm

Over the summer, Service-Learning Staff met with a number of new sites, and is building more opportunities with others, particularly through leadership positions who offer transportation.  These sites include Lakeland Elementary Middle School, The Choice Program (M, Tues, & Wed), and Walden Circle on Tues & Thurs.  College Gardens' afterschool program needs volunteers each day, Monday-Thursday.

Paid Mechanical Engineering Position Near BWI Are you still looking for a co-op or internship position for the Fall?

Kop-Flex currently has paid full-time or part-time co-op positions for
Mechanical Engineering students.  Kop-Flex is located south of Baltimore
near BWI airport, and offers students a great opportunity to gain
experience in mechanical design and manufacturing.

Kop-Flex Inc., part of a business unit of Emerson Electric Co., is a
manufacturer of flexible couplings for power transmission applications.

Kop-Flex hires many co-op students for full-time positions after
graduation.

Duties will include: assisting Product Engineers in the design of
mechanical couplings and u-joints used in industrial, power transmission
applications; performing rudimentary stress analysis using in-house
computer programs; calculating coupling mass elastic data; applying
engineering knowledge to modify coupling designs to meet customer
specifications; other computer-related duties as assigned. Co-ops will
also be expected to interface with our global engineering teams.

Co-op engineers are expected to possess a basic understanding of machine
design principles, as well as introductory engineering knowledge in the
areas of stress analysis, mechanics of materials, dynamics, and vibration
analysis.  They should also be familiar with the use of Microsoft Office
and have some familiarity and proficiency with CAD (preferably AutoCAD) as
well.

The student will learn basic manufacturing processes, develop the ability
to identify and create cost-effective designs, and become familiar with
material specifications and applications.  Also, the student will learn to
communicate with customers and associates, while assisting the company to
process day to day work.

Visual Data Systems Online Marketing Interns are NOT expected to have any experience as we will provide full training and practice of our marketing methodologies. Create a contest to drive social media engagement, analyze conversion metrics or test a new tool to help streamline processes.

You will get to work on client projects right from the start. Your role will be split into the areas of your strengths. You will have the ability to research and test new applications/technology related to SEO and Social Media that will further enhance the Online Marketing program. We will provide full training in all aspects of your job.

You must:
* be a creative thinker with an ability to think outside the box
* be self disciplined
* have good attention to detail
* be computer and Internet savvy
* be able to fit in and work well with a team
* be interested in researching and learning the latest SEO/online marketing trends

Any of the following would be advantageous but are not necessary:
* Examples of your writing abilities - particularly anything quirky, funny or interesting
* Experience in search engine optimization, pay per click management, and/or social media marketing.
* A video or other online medium submission that demonstrates what sets you apart from other applicants.

The job is a part time position and will be based at our office in Columbia, Maryland. Your role will vary on an almost daily basis but will include:

* Social Media
* Viral marketing creation
* Online Reputation Management
* Link building
* Keyword research
* Writing creative and compelling adverts and headlines

 

This is a paid internship and requires around 30-32 hours per week. The Schedule is very flexible. Never have internships looked more glamorous, or at least been more in the news.

In their latest buddy comedy, The Internship, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson played way-too-old ‘Nooglers’ (code for ‘new’ at Google) and vie for coveted spots as full-time employees at the Internet search giant. In the film, interns create apps, generate sales leads and even play a fierce match of quidditch.

Not a very realistic picture of the average internship, of course. In fact, for many of us internships are more like: following a mind-numbing process, running errands, job shadowing and answering phones.

For those of us not blessed with a summer internship at Google HQ, here are 10 ways to make the most of an internship…
