Intern with the GAO and Gain Valuable Skills
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) is an independent, nonpartisan agency that works for Congress. We accomplish our mission by providing objective and reliable information and analysis to the Congress, to federal agencies, and to the public, and recommending improvements, when appropriate, on a wide variety of issues to make government work better.
This vacancy is for Summer internship positions. The anticipated start dates begin in May 2024.
As a GAO Undergraduate Intern (Management and Program Analysis), you will work within one of GAO's Chief Administrative Offices or Staff Office to increase your knowledge, skills, and abilities. The work assignments may involve any of the following tasks:
- Develops knowledge of the roles and mission within GAO.
- Develops knowledge of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques needed to carry out individual work assignments.
- Participates actively in scheduled training programs.
- Participates with senior staff in conducting non routine projects.
- Provides assistance in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects and initiatives.

Georgetown Pre-Doc Summer Institute Apply by 2/15
Gain valuable Skills and Prepare for Grad School
The Political Science Predoctoral Summer Institute (PS-PSI) is a week-long training program for students who are considering pursuing a PhD in political science or a closely related field. The Institute offers an opportunity to meet other undergraduate students with similar interests, and to interact and network with faculty and graduate students from Georgetown University.
You will learn more about the substance and methods of political science and about political science PhD programs, discuss your research interests, and workshop application materials.
The PS-PSI pays for participants' travel expenses (up to $150) and for lodging at Georgetown, and provides a $1,000 stipend. We offer relevant materials in advance of the PS-PSI to help participants prepare; provide the materials participants will use at the Institute, and connect participants with excellent resources to help them continue their path forward after the Institute. We also provide support for one formal GRE preparation class and one GRE test (with prior approval).
The PS-PSI 2024 will be held from June 2 through June 8. Applications are now open and due by February 15, 2024.

The Department is accepting applications to represent UMBC at the 64th
Annual Naval Academy Foreign Affairs Conference (NAFAC) on 09-11 April,
2024. If you would like to be considered, please send a 1-paragraph
application, indicating your major/minor, GPA and why you would be a
strong candidate to represent UMBC. The Department will cover any costs
associated with participation. Please send your application to Dr.
Grodsky (bgrodsky@umbc.edu) by February 2nd.
NAFAC is a leading foreign affairs conference for undergraduate students
to discuss pressing global issues. The Conference provides the
opportunity for students to engage with future civil and military leaders on the grounds of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
This year's Conference explores the topic, "Where Power Lies: The Development of Civil-Military Relations in a New World Order." The topic explores how the relationship between the military and society impacts a country's functionality, its ability to interact with other countries and achieve its international goals, and finally how the use of technology/AI can affect the development of civil-military relations.
Each year the Conference is enriched by the excellent delegates who join
us from colleges, universities, and military academies in the US and more than 20 different countries. The participants will hear from expert speakers and panelists, engage in discussion sessions, and pursue a wargame analyzing the intricate details of foreign affairs. While distinguished speakers enhance the experience, the Conference depends on the caliber of its delegates. We encourage you to send undergraduate students who are sincerely interested in the topic and who demonstrate a strong capacity for meaningful contribution. While many delegates have a political science or international relations background, this is by no means required.
This year, we are excited to introduce a new opportunity for delegates
to present any personal research on the theme to their roundtable groups. While this is entirely optional, we encourage your selected delegates to bring a two to three page paper that will contribute to the intellectual discourse of the group. The NAFAC staff will recognize the most exemplary paper at
the conclusion of the Conference.

PAID US GAO Hiring Summer Interns
Start your career in the Federal Government
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) is hiring for their summer analyst internship program. Internships are paid and have the potential to be converted to a permanent position. The application will close either when the first 300 applications are submitted or on Friday, January 5, 2024. Students can learn more about GAO's different mission teams here.
Students should be aware that it's not yet definitive whether the internship will be 100% virtual but, the internship is eligible for telework with the option of working in person. If hired, interns will be assigned to one of the GAO locations listed in the vacancy announcement for the position that they applied for, and that location will be their assigned Official Duty Station (ODS). Interns will be required to report in person to their ODS for their first day of the new hire orientation to complete necessary. Below is the link to the undergraduate application:
