HAPP is changing to Public Health BA at UMBC

<Tagline>A new name for fall 2021!</Tagline>

The Health Administration and Policy Program is changing! During summer 2021 the program will see a change of the name of the major to a BA in Public Health. All major requirements and curriculum will remain the same, the primary change will be the name of the major.

The name Public Health will give our students a "bigger umbrella" to have their education and skills recognized. We believe this will increase opportunities for all of our students to be more competitive for internships, jobs, and graduate education during and after their undergraduate career at UMBC.

In addition, students will have their tracks noted on their transcripts to further highlight their credentials. Stay tuned for small changes to the track names.

While some changes may take a few months to become visible, others will start to show up in the next week. We will have more information for current and prospective students in fall 2021. If you have an urgent question you can reach out to me (katie.birger@umbc.edu) or Ms. Sanford (dsanford@umbc.edu).

Check out our welcome back video on the department home page!

The ORISE Research Participation Program at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is an educational and training program designed to provide college students, recent graduates, and university faculty opportunities to connect with the unique resources of the FDA. With the support of an assigned mentor, participants have authentic research experiences using equipment not found on most college campuses. These research experiences compliment the educational nature of the programs and make participants aware of potential STEM employment opportunities at the sponsoring agency. Participants will have access to unique research and training opportunities, top scientists and engineers, and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.

Hi everyone, it's professor Birger. It looks like you all got a fake email this morning about a job opportunity. I believe it is a phishing email that originated outside of UMBC. The phone number is one that has been used in multiple similar phishing emails that UMBC students have received in the past.

If the department had job openings, we would post them on the myUMBC page, and you would get an email like this, or you might hear about them directly from your professors. If the university had a job opening it would be posted on the jobs website on the UMBC HR page. This one did look very convincing, the phishers are getting more and more sophisticated. It is always good to check with us if you receive something questionable, and thank you to those of you that emailed me this morning!
