Two research opportunities are currently available with the Office of the Commissioner (OC) Office of Women's Health (OWH), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The project will be located at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will have the opportunity to learn about infectious disease and oncology in pregnant women, clinical trial data, health communications and research efforts to expand knowledge about the effects of drugs used during pregnancy.

Overview 

The Centers for Medicare Services (CMS) values the contributions made by students and recent graduates of all backgrounds. We continually benefit from a diverse workforce that includes students and recent graduates who infuse the workplace with their enthusiasm, talents, and unique perspectives. The Pathways Programs include three separate tiers, the Internship program, the Recent Graduates Program, and the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program. CMS also uses the Student Volunteer Program to fill non-paid internship positions.  A full description of each program may be found below.

Recent Graduates Program - OPEN NOW!!

The Recent Graduates Program affords participants developmental experiences at CMS intended to promote possible careers to individuals who have recently graduated within the previous two years from qualifying educational institutions. This one-year program is designed to provide an opportunity to those individuals who lack experience to participate in Federal government jobs, enabling them to develop on the job as they establish their career. Successful candidates are placed in a developmental program with the potential to lead to permanent employment at CMS.

Eligibility

·         Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.

·         Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree or certificate completion to apply.

CMS Recent Graduate Opportunities - OPEN NOW!!!

CMS sometimes recruits for the Recent Graduates Program as an agency-wide effort around the normal graduation timeframes.  Additionally, managers may request to recruit for individual Recent Graduates at any time throughout the year.  All Recent Graduates are assigned a mentor and required to complete at least 40 hours of formal, interactive training during the program.

Sign-In: Non-JHU students will need a photo ID to enter the building. You will not be admitted into the building without it. Sign-in for fair is located at the East Monument St. entrance.

 CDC Public Health Associate Program – deadline approaching

CDC’s Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) is accepting applications from prospective associates. The associate application period is open January 22-28, 2020. This is an exciting opportunity for students who are interested in a career in public health. The next PHAP class will start in October 2020.

PHAP is a two-year, competitive, paid training program for early-career, public health professionals. Associates are employed by CDC and work at state, tribal, local, and territorial public health departments; nongovernmental organizations; public health institutes and associations; academic institutions; and CDC quarantine stations.

CDC notes several benefits to serving as a PHAP associate, including:

• Recognition as part of the nation’s leading public health agency; associates receive a salary and the benefits of a temporary full-time employee.   
• Formal training in key public health competency areas; associates participate in seminars, workshops, web-based training, and conferences that enhance their basic public health program skills
• Regular supervisory and mentoring support throughout the program
• Unique opportunities to experience a wide variety of activities in the day-to-day operations of public health programs, qualifying them to compete for entry-level career positions at CDC or equivalent positions in other public health organizations

PHAP is open to recent graduates with a minimum of a bachelor's degree (minimum 3.0 GPA required). Candidates must be willing to accept a position within the 50 states or the US territories and relocate at their own expense, if necessary.
