There are two more days of activities celebrating National Public Health Week. For a list of all activities, check out and follow the NPHW UMBC Group page. Below are a few highlights.

Thursday: Mental Health & Addiction

- Mental Health Expression Wall; Location: UC Courtyard - In front of Starbucks; When: 10 am - 2:00 pm

- American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Walk registration sponsor Office of Health Promotion; register now for the UMBC AFSP Walk on April 29th; 10 am start time

- “Touched with Fire” Movie night with Prof. Kalfoglou. Location: Physics 107; When: 6-8 pm 


Friday: Food & Nutrition

- Retriever Essentials will be showing the film "Hungry to Learn" in RAC 230 from 10:30am to 12:30pm 

- Retriever Essentials open house "The Essential Space" in RAC 235 from 10:30am to 12:30pm. 

- Food for Fines is program created to collect food and toiletries for UMBC students facing food insecurity. The program runs from April 3-14 with a goal of helping as many students as possible. From April 3-14, simply bring in five or more items from the most needed items list (here) and we will reduce one active citation to a warning (the citation must be $40 or less). Previously paid citations are not eligible. All donations must be made at the Parking Services offices from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, by April 14.

Take a photo in your community and upload it to our Drive folder or DM us your photo (including your name and email) on our Instagram page @umbcpublichealth. We will select the top photos for each day and randomly draw one person to win a Starbucks gift card. At the end of the week, we will randomly select one winner from all the people who engaged with us on myUMBC and Instagram. Each share, like, tag, or repost = 1 entry in the random drawing!

MdPHA Student Members

The Student Section of the Maryland Public Health Association (SMdPHA) is an organization open to ALL students from ALL universities and colleges! SMdPHA serves communities throughout the state, educates others about public health topics and promotes the field to students, and advocates for public health equity. By being a SMdPHA member, you will have opportunities to learn more about public health in practice and participate in networking opportunities with professionals at events throughout the year.

SMdPHA currently has three student chapters at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy ( facebook.com/SMDPHA ), University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, and Towson University. These chapters work independently and with the guidance of the MdPHA Board of Directors to create events and activities to engage and enhance the student experience.
