All 8-Month communities will close at 9PM on December 17 and will reopen at 12 pm on January 27, 2026. 

Before You Leave
  • Clean your room and bathroom
  • Remove all trash
  • Turn the heat to 68-72 degrees
  • Unplug all appliances & extension cords (except for the microfridge)
    • Clean your refrigerator and dispose of perishable items
  • Pack all of your necessities you will need during the Winter Break
  • Turn off facuets
  • Turn off lights and bathroom exhaust fans
  • Close and lock all windows and doors
  • Close blinds on ground level floor rooms
  • Report any and all facilities concerns to FXIT
  • Update your shipping/mailing address
RAs will be conducting room inspections in each 8-month community!

  • Make sure to check Dining Services website for hours of operation during the Winter Break
  • Consider alternative food arrangements

Limited On-Campus Services
  • Many offices/Departments will be closed and/or operating on limited hours during the Winter Break
  • The Harbor Desk will be open 8 am - 8 pm
  • If you choose to leave for Winter Break, please follow the above Break Closing instructions for 8-Month residents.

Eligibility & Instructions

Residents are eligible to apply for late stay if their permanent address is more than 50 miles (Distance D) from UMBC and they are:

  • Graduating,
  • Volunteering with commencement, or
  • International travel

Please note that we are not able to accomodate requests for requests beyond December 18, 2025 at 3 p.m.

This form is for individual fall residents seeking an Late Stay for the current semester. This form is not for residents with group approved late stays. If you are already part of an approved late stay group, you do NOT need to request late stay. Please contact your group leader if you have questions about your late stay date.

All late stay requests are sent via The Housing Portal > Forms & Requests. The deadline to submit your request for Late Stay is December 14, 2025 at 5 p.m.

    Residential Life values the co-creation of a safe environment in every residential community. It is the responsibility of every resident to ensure that they are contributing to a safe and healthy environment in their residence by:

    It is the responsibility of Residential Life staff to educate residents through positive, personal contact,  maintain the residential facilities and conduct health and safety checks in residential rooms intermittently throughout the semester to identify health and safety issues in a timely way. These issues could include facility issues, fire safety, and the presence of prohibited items. 

    This semester, Residential Life staff will be conducting these health and safety inspections on the week of October 6, 2025. Residents are not expected to be present during the inspection, but if you would like to be please contact your RA to schedule a time.

     

    If concerns or issues are found in your room, you will receive notification via email. Please review the email and follow the instructions for correcting the issues in advance of a reinspection. Failure to correct the issues by the reinspection date, outlined in the email, may result in Student Conduct Action.
