<Title>Walden Circle Community Center Summer Camp Cook Position</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span><strong>Background</strong>: Walden Circle is a rental community of 300 townhomes in Woodlawn, MD. The Community Center is located in this neighborhood.  Every year we host a summer camp for a select group of neighborhood kids ages 5 to 13.  The camp runs 5 weeks and includes structured and unstructured activities such as planned field trips, outdoor games, and educational but fun classes.</span></p><p><span>At this time, we are looking for students to provide meals for our campers.  The meals include breakfast at 9:00AM, lunch at 12:00PM and a snack at 3:00PM.  We anticipate that this will be a 30 hour per week position.  Once the snack is ready to be served the cook may finish with their day.</span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span><strong>Duties</strong>: In conjunction with Walden Circle Summer Camp Staff, the student cook is expected to:</span></p><ol><li><span>Help open the center at 8:00AM,</span></li><li><span>Cook or make breakfast for approximately 35 campers to be served at 9:00AM,</span></li><li><span>Cook or make lunch for approximately 35 campers to be served at 12:00PM,</span></li><li><span>Cook or make a small snack for approximately 35 campers to be served at 3:00PM,</span></li><li><span>Clean up between each meal,</span></li><li><span>Coordinate the cooking efforts of volunteer camper helpers and camp counselors.</span></li></ol><p><span><br></span></p><p><span><strong>Qualifications</strong>: The ideal candidate will have some if not all of the following qualifications:</span></p><ol><li><span>Experience working with children in similar settings (after school programs, class rooms, camps, etc.), </span></li><li><span>A desire to work with children and provide them nutritious meals,</span></li><li><span>Basic cooking skills,</span></li><li><span>The ability to work in a fast pace environment with many activities taking place around the camp,</span></li><li><span>The ability to create a meal plan and schedule,</span></li><li><span>The ability to create a shopping list to produce that meal plan.</span></li></ol><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>There is a lot of flexibility built into this camp, and the primary goal of the WCCC is to provide children with a safe and fun environment to come to during the summer break.  Fresh ideas are welcome and we hope that the person who applies for this position brings something that they are passionate about and wants to share with the children, whether this is related to studies or hobbies.</span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>If you are interested please mail your cover letter and resume to <a href="mailto:jtaylo14@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Dr. Joby Taylor</a>.</span></p><div><br></div></div>

<Title>State Policy Fellowship Program</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Latest information about an exciting career opportunity with the State Policy Fellowship Program just posted, which could be the perfect for some students or recent graduates.  Its goal is to help build a diverse generation of future leaders who will shape state policies that affect disadvantaged families and communities. <br> <br>The Fellowship is sponsored the <strong>Center on Budget and Policy Priorities</strong>, a national policy institute, and the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative (SFAI), a network of public policy organizations in over 40 states that participate in debates over budget and tax issues and other issues in their states that affect disadvantaged communities and families.    <br> <br><strong>Below are key details on the program:</strong><br>- Fellows will spend two years as entry-level analysts working with a state policy organization belonging to the nationwide SFAI network. <br> - Fellows will research and write analyses on current policy issues; brief policymakers, journalists, and others on these issues; and serve as a resource for advocates and community groups.<br>- These are paid, full time positions with benefits. <br>- Fellows will participate in a professional development program that includes a week-long seminar in Washington, D.C. and additional training opportunities, including national policy conferences.  Additionally, fellows will be partnered with mentors who are leaders in their field.  <br>- To be eligible for the program, candidates must 1) have a graduate degree in public policy, public affairs, economics, social work, public health, law, or a related field by August 2014, 2) have a strong academic record, and 3) be eligible to work in the United States for the two-year duration of the program.<br> <br>Application requirements include a personal essay, resume, copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and two letters of recommendation.  Completed applications must be submitted by January 24, 2014, but we encourage applicants to apply earlier.  The fellowship will begin in the latter part of August 2014.<br> <br><strong>For complete program information</strong>, please visit <a href="http://my.umbc.edu/groups/careers/news/37543/www.cbpp.org/fellowship" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">www.cbpp.org/fellowship</a>.  If you have questions, contact us at <a href="mailto:fellowship@cbpp.org">fellowship@cbpp.org</a>.</div>

    around reading as an engagement strategy for an after school activity in a
