    <div class="html-content"><div>UMBC has opened up registration for Summer Session 2014. <a href="http://www.umbc.edu/summer/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Summer session at UMBC </a>makes graduating in four years easier to attain, by offering students an opportunity to catch up or get ahead on credits.<br><span><br>UMBC offers summer courses in two sessions. Session I courses start May 27, and Session II courses start July 7. Courses are offered over 4, 6, 8 and 12 week time frames.<br></span><span><br>Online, in-person, and hybrid courses, which blend in-person and online learning, are offered during the session. Summer Session 2014 courses span the disciplines, providing options for students who need to earn general education requirements or credits toward their major.<br></span><span><br>To meet the needs of the many UMBC students in science, mathematics, technology and engineering majors, UMBC provides a number of high-quality, introductory STEM courses. <Title>Bridging Scholarship</Title>

    <div class="html-content">The SAO would like to share the following message from <span>Susan Schmidt, the</span><br><span>Executive Director of the </span><span>Bridging Project for Study Abroad in Japan:</span><div><span><br></span><em><span>The Bridging Scholarship program will award 60+ scholarships to American students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan during the 2014-2015 academic year or the Fall 2014 semester. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study and attending any recognized exchange or independent program in Japan are eligible to apply for these scholarships. April 8 is the deadline for receipt of student applications.</span><br><br><span>Recipients of Bridging Scholarships will receive stipends ranging from $2,500 to $4,000, depending on the length of their study program in Japan. The scholarships are funded by donations from U.S. corporations and foundations to the US-Japan Bridging Foundation, and administered by the American Association of Teachers of Japanese. Since 1999, the Bridging Scholarship program has awarded more than 1,350 scholarships to students studying abroad in Japan.</span><br><br><span>The deadline for applications for the Fall 2014 semester or the 2014-2015 academic year is April 8, 2014. Applicants will be notified of the results by May 30. Selection will be based on academic potential and financial need. (Students studying in Japan during only the Spring 2015 semester should wait until fall of 2014 to apply.)</span><br><br><span>In addition, Morgan Stanley Japan will award two $7,500 scholarships to undergraduate students who will be studying abroad in Japan during the 2014-2015 academic year. Applications can be accessed vi</span><span>a</span><span>: </span><a href="http://www.fundforeducationabroad.com/applicants/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">http://www.fundforeducationabroad.com/applicants/</a><div><br><div><span>Scholarships are offered up to $5,000 per semester and are not limited to </span><span>specific programs, destinations, or fields of study.  FEA awards funds to </span><span>students planning to study abroad on academically rigorous programs with </span><span>a</span><br><span>strong preference for underrepresented students.  In addition to their gene</span><span>ral</span><br><span>scholarships, FEA also awards the </span><span>the Rainbow Scholarship, awarded to a deserving LGBTQ student who aims to </span><span>participate in an education abroad program.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>The deadline for all FEA scholarship applications is January 17, 2014</span><span>.</span></div></div></div>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>The Maryland International Education
    Association (MIEA) Scholarship deadline is October 18, 2013 for Spring 2014
    study abroad programs. In recognition that Maryland graduates need experience
    in the global arena to be competitive in the job market, this scholarship
    opportunity is made possible by The Baltimore Community Foundation and the MIEA.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>Applicants must be
    US citizens, residents of the state of Maryland, enrolled in a degree-seeking
    program at a Maryland institution of higher education and have at least a 3.2
    GPA.  Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits while abroad in
    the Spring.  </span><span> </span></p>

    <div class="html-content"><h3>Bridging Scholarships for Study Abroad in Japan</h3><div>The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study abroad programs in Japan. Funding from private foundations and major U.S. corporations has made it possible for about 100 scholarships to be awarded annually to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite.     <div class="html-content"><blockquote>The Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University (IFSA-Butler) has scholarships available for the fall semester First Generation Scholars Program. This achievement-based program offers first generation college students significant financial, academic and pre-professional assistance for enrollment in an IFSA-Butler semester or year program. The application deadline for fall semester 2013 is Friday, March 1.<br><br>The scholarship is worth up to $2,500 and covers $500 in housing and meals, flight costs (approximately $,1500 value), student visa fees where applicable, and passport fees. Recipients also participate in a blogging program and a resume building workshop, and they receive specialized first generation college student information.<br><br>The scholarship requires a minimum GPA of 2.7. The scholarship is not based on financial need, but applicants do need to complete a Financial Footprint.
