Graduation Cords

Graduation Cords Are you graduating this May (2015)? Hey SWEeathearts!

If you are graduating this spring 2015 and are interested in graduation cords, please respond to this post! a simple "yes!" will do. The color of the cord will be teal and white! this will be unique to UMBC SWE's chapter. The cost will be as much as ~$8, however if more girls are interested this could potentially decrease. I would need your money before I place the order on Wednesday April 15th. You can hand this in during meeting (it's a tie-dye event! fun!!!). So even if you say yes, the money is what will secure yourself a cord to wear across that stage come May!

At the Wednesday, October 12 SWE meeting, we discussed this talk, Sheryl Sandberg: Why we have too few women leaders. Her speech was about why she believes she doesn't see many women at the top of any field.

The most important points we took away from this video is that women rarely want to "own" their own success and often attribute it to outside factors (worked hard, someone helped them, etc.)

We would love to get a group of students together to teach a class for Splash! UMBC 2012 held on Saturday, March 10. Learn more about this program by checking out their website.

Take a look at the classes taught last year at Splash! UMBC 2011. The classes vary in length and topic, from 1 to 2 hours long depending on the topic and activity. Most focus on one main topic or activity that would be really fun for high school students.

Post your ideas for this event and we can get a group of teachers together! Teachers (us!) can register until December 14, 2011 to teach at this event.
