Important Transportation Update: New Starting Point for All

<Tagline>First Stop All Routes - Commons Dr. & Park Rd - 10.07.23</Tagline>

Hello Retrievers,

We hope you are doing well. We are writing to let you know about an important update regarding our transportation services. Beginning Saturday, October 7, 2023, all our bus routes will commence from a new starting point: Commons Dr. & Park Rd. This change has been made to enhance the overall transportation experience for our students, faculty, and staff members.

By centralizing our starting point at Commons Dr. & Park Rd., we aim to provide everyone with closer access to the academic buildings, ensuring a more convenient and efficient commute to and from campus. We believe that this adjustment will significantly improve the accessibility of our transportation services and contribute to a smoother travel experience for all passengers.

One of the key benefits of this change is eliminating any confusion related to the first bus stop. With a clearly defined starting point, passengers will find it easier to locate and board the buses promptly, reducing wait times and streamlining the departure process.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to improve our transportation services for the entire UMBC community. Thank you for your attention, and we look forward to serving you from our new starting point at Commons Dr. & Park Rd, beginning Saturday, October 7, 2023.

We understand that changes like these can raise questions, and our team is here to help you with any concerns. Please contact our office at 410.455.2454 or transit@umbc.edu if you need further clarification or assistance.

How To Ride The Bus - UMBC Transit

<Tagline>Steps to take when boarding the bus</Tagline>

Hello, Retrievers! We are thrilled to have you on board and ready to explore our city in style! Whether you're a seasoned commuter or a first-time traveler, here are some pro tips to make your bus journey as smooth as silk:

Steps

1. Arrive Early - Plan to be at your bus stop five minutes before the scheduled departure time.

2. Track Your Bus In Real-time - Track the predicted arrival time of your bus at your stop. Download the tracking app; links can be found on our website.

3. Step Back - Stand back from the curb when the bus approaches.

4. Take Your Time - Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop, for the doors to open, and for all riders to have exited before you try to board.

5. Have Your ID Ready - Before boarding the bus, please have your ID ready to avoid delays

6. Get Comfy - Take your seat. Hang on and Enjoy the ride!

Note: Please see the attached files for details steps

Additional Important Information:

- If you need help boarding, ask the Bus Operator. Also, most buses can be lowered to make it easier for you to get on or off.

- Our Bus Operators cannot reopen the doors or return to the curb once they depart for safety reasons. For your safety, never chase after or pound on the bus after it pulls away from the curb. Don't worry; another bus will be along shortly!

- If using a mobility device, please review your owner's manual for safety warnings - including its use on transit vehicles.

Beginning in Fall 2023, UMBC Transit will provide weekday access to the Route 40/Ellicott City communities. Historically, this route had been a weekend-only route that accommodated shopping options for our students during the weekends. With an increased number of Graduate and undergraduate students living in the Route 40 and Ellicott City community, the requests for weekday access have also grown.

This transportation route gives students a dependable means of getting to and from campus on weekdays and weekends. Along the way, you'll pass through a vibrant network of shopping centers, international markets, apartments, homes, and eateries.

In the coming weeks, we will publish this route's Fall 2023 schedule and other points of interest. In the meantime, you can Ride Virtually Here. Attached is a PDF map of the route.
