UMBC Professor Vandana Janeja is a co-author of an article, Envisioning the Future AI Research Ecosystem, by the Computing Community Consortium’s AI Research Ecosystem Task Force that outlines the strains facing academic AI research. It notes that public academic research is uniquely suited to high-risk, long-horizon work on AI safety, explainability, and foundational science.
