- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2023The beginning years of UMBC from the perspective of it’s Student in the first four years!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2023We met in 1968, graduated and married in 1970. UMBC met so much to us. I once wrote “it was at UMBC that I learned to love school and learning for the first time”. An honor contributing and an appreciation of all who made it happen.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2023I received my book today and the heart felt stories from the alumni gave me chills. Emotional accounts from students who were so grateful for their years at UMBC. Thank you all so much for the fond memories. 😌

- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2023This compilation of stories from the earliest students at UMBC is well done. As a member of the FIFTH graduating class (Class of '74), I shared a lot of the experiences described here. UMBC was quite raw back in those days, still figuring out what it was going to be. Some of the excellent faculty hired in those early days stuck around and help build the institution. In some ways early UMBC was defined by what it was NOT-- it was not all white, it was not a football school, it was not UM College Park, it was not an "ag" school (even if it was built on farmland...), and it was going to be a place where nerds were welcome. Its department of Ancient Studies was a treasure as was "Option 2" (later called interdisciplinary studies). Visual and Performing Arts was a major that ultimately did not work but it was visionary! Later it was disaggregated into Visual Arts, Music, and Theater. If you attended or worked at UMBC in the early days, this book is a MUST READ. If you attended or worked at UMBC at any point in its 57-year history, I think you will enjoy the fresh, unaffected style of these UMBC "pioneers." Nancy Lloyd Miller '74 and '85

this collection of first hand memories of those first years. Happy to have mine included!
