The Born in Baltimore Film & Photography Festival is now accepting submissions for its third annual event!  Sponsored by Baltimore Youth Film Arts, this festival celebrates new voices in cinema and photographic arts.  Filmmakers and photographers of all ages and levels of experience whose work is of, from, and about Baltimore are invited to submit (for free!) before April 15.  The Festival seeks images, sounds, and textures that are uniquely Baltimore; the music, the faces, the stories of our city and its citizens, past and present, young and old, native and newly arrived.

Born in Baltimore will be held at the Creative Alliance on Saturday, June 29.  Information about the festival and application instructions can be found at https://www.borninbaltimore.org.

Picturing Italian Art and Culture in Context 

Rome, Italy, July 3 – 31, 2019

This program includes two Visual Arts courses, ART329 Topics in Art History: Roman Visual Culture and ART369/392 Topics in Photography, Art, Media: Mobile Imaging in Italy, for a total of 6 undergraduate credits. Both courses engage the rich history and architecture of Rome, analyzing and exploring it through new technologies and social media.

Both courses can be used to fulfill the following requirements:

For the BA/BFA in Visual Arts, ART329 will fulfill requirements for the Art History portion of all VA concentrations. For the BA/BFA in Visual Arts, ART369/392 will fulfill requirements for the Photography concentration or it can be used to count as an art elective in any of the other VA concentrations. For Global Studies majors, the program fulfills the Study Abroad requirement. Both courses can be used to fulfill requirements for general electives.

UMBC tuition is waived. Some students may be eligible for financial aid.

Have those pieces left you intrigued, surprised, or impressed?

Has the look and the feel of that piece influenced your decision or your perception of the person who gave it to you?

More than half the human brain is devoted to processing sensory experiences. Touch, in particular, is an important part of the communication process. The way we understand and interpret the world is fundamentally rooted in our physical bodies. So, how things feel drives our thoughts and behaviors, influence our comprehension and retention of information, and profoundly shapes our emotional connections. As communicators, we need to understand the role this plays with our audience in order to make a lasting impact.
