<Title>Seeking Photographer for Oct. 3 On-campus Event</Title>

    <div class="html-content">The Office of Academic and Pre-professional Advising is seeking a 
    photographer to cover the upcoming "The Major Event" - a series of 
    speakers, interactive workshops and fairs promoting major exploration as
     well as major/program engagement (internships, study abroad, research, 
    student academic organizations, etc.).  The Major Event will take place 
    Monday, Oct. 1 - Wednesday, Oct. 3.  The events are expected to draw 
    over 1,000 participants.  For more details, visit <a href="https://advising.umbc.edu/home/the-major-event/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">https://advising.umbc.edu/home/the-major-event/</a>. 
     Preferably, the photographer will be available for all four events.  
    Photographer must be available for the culminating event, The Major 
    Fair, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon.   A 
    stipend, up to $200, will be provided.  For more information, contact

    <p><span>For more than 30 years, Carol has been dedicated to creating entrepreneurial and educational programs in the arts, humanities, and sciences. For nearly twelve years, she was the director of educational and cultural programs at The Smithsonian Associates where she was responsible for over 1,500 educational programs annually. Today, in addition to her work with Bogash Consulting, she is also the Director of Performing Arts at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore as well as the Orchestra Manager at Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.     <p><span>On <strong>September 27-29, 2018</strong>, the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) hosts
    <strong><em>Shifting the Landscape: Black Architects and Planners, 1968 to Now</em></strong>,
     a symposium held in the Oprah Winfrey Theater. The symposium focuses on
     the activism, engagement, and impact of black architects and urban 
    planners over the past fifty years.
     The event will bring together architects, planners, and scholars of the
     built environment. </span></p>
    <p><strong><span> </span></strong></p>
    <p><span>On
     the occasion of this symposium, NMAAHC’s Office of Strategic 
    Partnerships is funding Symposium Travel Scholarships for senior-level 
    undergraduate or graduate students to attend the
     full program. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a full-time 
    academic program in architecture, design, urban planning, historic 
    preservation, African American studies or a related field. Scholarships 
    will provide recipients with a cash award of $1,000
     to offset travel and/or lodging expenses. Please visit the Museum’s

    <p><strong>Job Description/Intern Duties</strong>:</p>
    <p>The Exhibitions internship is an opportunity to learn about exhibition design and related programming while providing valuable support to the Visual Arts Curator. The selected applicant will work closely with full-time staff on the presentation of artists in the Creative Alliance’s two galleries. Candidates should be willing to tackle different tasks each day, both in tandem with the Visual Arts Curator, or with other full-time staff, and independently based on the needs of the project.</p>
    <p><strong>Ongoing responsibilities include:</strong></p>
    <ul>
    <li>Organize information regarding exhibiting artists (biographies, images, artist statements, label information,etc.)</li>
    <li>Assist the full-time staff and exhibiting artists with installation and deinstallation ofartwork</li>
    <li>Manage receptions forartists</li>
    <li>Act as an information liaison between the galleries and general public during selected high-profile specialevents</li>
    </ul>
    <p>Through these activities he/she/they will assist in the creation of marketing material (press releases, show cards, information packets, etc.), web content, social media postings, and help develop related programming, such as gallery talks or workshops relating to the theme or content of each exhibition. Interns will participate in every aspect of exhibition development and design. She/he will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the Creative Alliance’s Visual Arts Department.</p>
    <p><strong>Preferred Majors or Areas of Study:</strong></p>
    <p>Studio Art, Art History, Arts Management, Curatorial Practice, Art Education, Marketing, Communications</p>

    <p><strong>Special Requirements:</strong></p>
    <p><strong><br></strong></p>
    <p>Candidates must have working knowledge of Office programs; knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, In-Design, and Photoshop is preferred; knowledge of social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook; ability to perform physical labor (lift and sustain 50 lbs, accurately hammer a nail, carefully paint walls and pedestals, etc.) while closely following instructions; ability to write and edit with attention to grammar and spelling; good, conversational phone manners; self- driven, positive attitude; the intern will be expected to work some Friday and Saturday evening receptions (typically ending by 8pm).</p>
    <p><strong>Other Important Information:</strong></p>
    <p>This internship will specifically focus on exhibitions and working with artists. Clerical work, including the production of labels, database entry and research, and some marketing (getting fliers distributed and posting on different social media platforms) work is involved.</p>
    <p>Transportation is a plus, but not a requirement.</p>
