Motivational Monday TEDx of the Week

<Tagline>"The unforeseen consequences of a fast-paced world.”</Tagline>

Looking for a dose of inspiration to start your week? No need to look any further. Each week, we curate talks on topics that matter NOW for all of us related to resilience, self-care, dealing with uncertain times, as well as ways to stay connected, inspired, and grounded when the earth beneath us is shifting.

Today's talk is The unforeseen consequences of a fast-paced world by Kathryn Bouskill. Why does modern technology promise efficiency, but leave us constantly feeling pressed for time? Anthropologist Kathryn Bouskill explores the paradoxes of living in a fast-paced society and explains why we need to reconsider the importance of slowing down in a world that demands go, go, go.

After you watch, we invite you to reflect on the following:

What resonated for you in the video?

What lived experiences do you have, either personally or professionally that align with the core message of the talk?

As you think of your role as a student, employee, or manager what feels relevant and useful to remember?

What are you taking away that feels meaningful - either a new perspective, a potential action, etc.

How might we take better care of ourselves and each other during this time?

If you're a supervisor, consider using this talk for team building purposes! You might send the video ahead of your meeting with several reflection questions on which you'd like your staff to come prepared to speak.

Celeste Headlee has worked as a radio host for decades, and she knows the ingredients of a great conversation: Honesty, brevity, clarity and a healthy amount of listening. In this insightful talk, she shares 10 useful rules for having better conversations. "Go out, talk to people, listen to people," she says.
We still have seats available for our July 14th Wellness Wednesday: Navigating Uncertainty with Mindfulness.

These times have been called unprecedented and yet we have all lived through adverse, uncertain times before. Indeed, the only thing we can ever count on is movement, transformation, and change. Instead of resisting the current it might serve us to learn to flow with it and even learn from it. This session will be a virtual hands on deep dive into the practice of mindfulness meditation as a practical tool for dealing with uncertainty and change. In our time together we will explore basic tenets of mindfulness and practice together expanding our mindset to 'welcome the unwelcome,' begin cultivating compassion for ourselves and others, and practice accepting situations as teachers, or as the poet Rumi suggests, 'guides from beyond.'

Motivational TEDx of the Week

<Tagline>"The power of believing that you can improve.”</Tagline>

Looking for a dose of inspiration to start your week? No need to look any further. Each week, we curate talks on topics that matter NOW for all of us related to resilience, self-care, dealing with uncertain times, as well as ways to stay connected, inspired, and grounded when the earth beneath us is shifting.

Today's talk is The power of believing that you can improve by Carol Dweck. Carol Dweck researches “growth mindset” — the idea that we can grow our brain's capacity to learn and to solve problems. In this talk, she describes two ways to think about a problem that’s slightly too hard for you to solve. Are you not smart enough to solve it … or have you just not solved it yet? A great introduction to this influential field.

As she puts it: "When you think like a mother, you prioritize the needs of the many, not the whims of the few."
Motivational Monday TEDx of the Week

<Tagline>"The happy secret to better work.”</Tagline>

Looking for a dose of inspiration to start your week? No need to look any further. Each week, we curate talks on topics that matter NOW for all of us related to resilience, self-care, dealing with uncertain times, as well as ways to stay connected, inspired, and grounded when the earth beneath us is shifting.

Today's talk is The happy secret to better work by Shawn Anchor. We believe we should work hard in order to be happy, but could we be thinking about things backwards? In this fast-moving and very funny talk, psychologist Shawn Achor argues that, actually, happiness inspires us to be more productive.
