Motivational Monday TEDx of the Week

<Tagline>4 tips to kickstart honest conversations at work</Tagline>

Looking for a dose of inspiration to start your week? No need to look any further. Each week, we curate talks on topics that matter NOW for all of us related to resilience, self-care, dealing with uncertain times, as well as ways to stay connected, inspired, and grounded when the earth beneath us is shifting.

Today's talk is 4 tips to kickstart honest conversations at work by Betsy Kauffman. Why is it so hard to speak up and productively disagree at work? Leadership and organization coach Betsy Kauffman shows how to bring the candid conversations that usually happen at the watercooler out into the open with four practical strategies you can implement right now to have honest, transparent discussions with your colleagues.

After you watch, we invite you to reflect on the following:

What resonated for you in the video?

What lived experiences do you have, either personally or professionally that align with the core message of the talk?

As you think of your role as a student, employee, or manager what feels relevant and useful to remember?

What are you taking away that feels meaningful - either a new perspective, a potential action, etc.

How might we take better care of ourselves and each other during this time?

If you're a supervisor, consider using this talk for team building purposes! You might send the video ahead of your meeting with several reflection questions on which you'd like your staff to come prepared to speak.

Motivational Monday TEDx of the Week

<Tagline>How your brain responds to stories</Tagline>

Looking for a dose of inspiration to start your week? No need to look any further. Each week, we curate talks on topics that matter NOW for all of us related to resilience, self-care, dealing with uncertain times, as well as ways to stay connected, inspired, and grounded when the earth beneath us is shifting.

Today's talk is How your brain responds to stories - and why they're crucial for leadersby Karen Eber. How do the world's best leaders and visionaries earn trust? They don't just present data -- they also tell great stories. Leadership consultant Karen Eber demystifies what makes for effective storytelling and explains how anyone can harness it to create empathy and inspire action.

Webinar: Staff and Faculty Burnout

Address the Toll of Prolonged Anxiety, Anticipatory Stress and Emotional Labor

Many professional staff and faculty have described their toolboxes as being empty. Their ability to motivate themselves, let alone their colleagues, has become difficult, if not nearly impossible. The stress and uncertainty from the past 18 months has taken its toll on everyone, and although people remain hopeful, the near future regarding the pandemic remains unclear. Having to make difficult personal and professional decisions has become the norm, often without a sense of what’s to come and a lack of transparency from university leadership has led to extraordinary and prolonged stress and anxiety.

Join us as our expert presenter discusses the current college work environment - exacerbated by the pandemic - and its serious implications for faculty and staff members’ mental and physical health. Learn about innovative strategies to help yourself and others to recognize and reduce stress, anxiety and burnout. She will share effective intervention strategies to address the toll of the prolonged anxiety, anticipatory stress, and emotional labor you have been experiencing as an individual and as a cohort.

Learn the necessary coping strategies to mitigate any existing chronic stress or anxiety you are experiencing, embrace self-care and avoid burnout. Gain tools for incorporating practical interventions to foster resiliency and grit so that you can balance your professional work and personal lives in a more productive and less stressful manner.

Topics Covered

As a result of this webinar, participants will be able to:

Identify the differences between stress, anxiety, and burnout – provide the necessary coping strategies and resources through specific tools and interventions to support, safeguard, and retain your faculty and staff.

Encourage faculty and staff to take control of their own health and wellness before they become disengaged or experience negative health implications – normalize self-care and support so that they can continue to teach, support, and engage with students.

Engage in more transparent and timely conversations – whether difficult to have or not – so that faculty and staff can remain in the right mindset to respond to the inevitable changes and problems.

Develop or enhance current intervention programs and awareness trainings so you can maintain or expand scope or gain additional resources to support faculty and staff in need – increase productivity and overall satisfaction as everyone begins to regroup and recharge.

Embrace the long-term impact that COVID-19 will have on college campuses – implement an integrated campus-wide strategy to support health, wellness and well-being for your frontline faculty and staff to reduce turnover and burnout.
