    <div><br></div>

    <div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Title of position: </strong>Summer intern in AMP-IT. Front-end developer and data analyst.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities:</strong></div>
    <div>During my internship, I was tasked with analyzing user usage patterns on a specific webpage, with the goal of enhancing the user experience through interface improvements. My day-to-day responsibilities primarily revolved around understanding user behavior, ideating potential UI changes, and implementing these improvements.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>I started by collecting and analyzing data on how users interacted with the webpage, identifying pain points, and areas that needed improvement. I then brainstormed ideas to make the webpage more user-friendly, focusing on easier navigation and comfortable browsing, including efficient result filtering.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>One of my key tasks was to create a mock-up presentation that showcased the proposed UI changes. To ensure that the changes would align with the needs of the end-users, I arranged meetings with both the IT and business teams. These teams were the primary users of the webpage, and their input was crucial in the decision-making process.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>During these meetings, I presented my ideas and mock-ups, seeking feedback and insights from the teams. Through collaboration and open communication, we collectively shortlisted upgrades that resonated with both teams.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Once the changes were approved, I leveraged my front-end UI development skills to implement these modifications to the webpage. This phase involved coding in HTML, CSS, Javascript, and C# to bring the proposed improvements to life.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>In summary, my internship experience was a dynamic process of data analysis, ideation, collaboration, and hands-on implementation. It provided me with a comprehensive understanding of user-centric design and the importance of bridging the gap between technical and business teams to create effective solutions.</div>
    <div><strong><br></strong></div>
    <div><strong>Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?</strong></div>
    <div>I looked through internship openings on numerous platforms until I found this one on the company's website, where I then submitted my application. They looked over my application and invited me in for an interview.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What resources did you use to find your current experience?</strong></div>
    <div>LinkedIn or other social media</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?</strong></div>
    <div>What I've enjoyed most about my position and the organization is the opportunity to make a tangible impact. Being entrusted with the task of analyzing user habits and improving the webpage's interface has been incredibly rewarding. It's fulfilling to see how small changes can lead to a smoother and more enjoyable user experience.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Moreover, the collaborative environment within the organization has been a standout aspect. Working closely with both the IT and business teams allowed me to gain insights from diverse perspectives. The open exchange of ideas and feedback fostered a sense of camaraderie, making the entire process not only productive but also enjoyable.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Overall, the combination of meaningful work and a supportive organizational culture has made my internship experience both enriching and fulfilling.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong></div>
    <div>I believe I've made a meaningful impact through my work by enhancing the user experience of the webpage. By analyzing user habits and implementing user-friendly interface changes, I have contributed to making the web page more accessible and efficient for its users. This has likely led to increased user satisfaction, improved navigation, and a smoother browsing experience.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Moreover, by actively involving both the IT and business teams in the decision-making process, I've helped bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders. This collaborative approach not only ensured that the changes met the actual needs of the end-users but also fostered better communication and understanding between different departments within the organization.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>In summary, I believe my work has contributed to improving user satisfaction and facilitating effective cross-team collaboration, ultimately making a positive impact on the organization as a whole.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong></div>
    <div>I would offer the following advice to a fellow student seeking an internship or similar experience:</div>

    <strong>This semester I completed a(n)...:</strong> Internship</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Internship, Co-op, or Research Site (Company/Organization Name): </strong>Academic Engagement and Transition Programs (AETP), UMBC</div>
    <div><strong><br></strong></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Location of the Organization (City, State): </strong>Baltimore, Maryland</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Title of position:</strong> General Associate (Graduate Summer Intern)</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities:</strong></div>
    <div>
    <div>As an intern within the Academic Engagement and Transition Programs (AETP) at UMBC, I had the privilege of undertaking a wide variety of responsibilities that were focused on enhancing the academic and transitional experiences of the incoming freshman class for Fall 2023. Working closely with the Program Coordinator, my active contribution to co-leading the Dawg Days: Jumpstart (Summer Bridge program) gave me an opportunity to guide a cohort comprising of more than 60 new students through a six-week journey consisting of rigorous academic coursework, invaluable career exploration sessions, fostering community building exercises, and engaging in enriching service-learning opportunities. On a weekly basis, my esteemed colleague and I were presented with new and exciting challenges as we embarked on the creation of innovative workshops designed to facilitate the academic transition of students. In addition to these endeavors, we also organized impactful co-curricular events, including social gatherings, field trips, and service-learning programs. The overarching goal of these initiatives was to foster personal growth and make a positive impact on the UMBC community.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Additionally, we made it our priority to establish an inclusive study hall environment within our university's library to ensure students felt supported throughout their individual educational journeys. I collaborated with faculty from various disciplines to coordinate class activities and ensure a cohesive academic experience. Furthermore, I helped peer mentors facilitate workshops for AETP. Another important aspect of my role was providing essential academic guidance to freshman students, helping them navigate their educational journey at UMBC. Through these efforts, I strive to create an inclusive and comprehensive learning environment that fosters growth and success for new students.</div>
    </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?</strong></div>
    <div>The AETP program coordinator emailed the graduate directors regarding the position with detailed information. I emailed my resume along with a brief expression of my interest and was selected for an interview. Following a successful in-person interview, I received an offer from the program coordinator to join the position.</div>
    <div><strong><br></strong></div>
    <div><strong>What resources did you use to find your current experience?</strong></div>
    <div>Networking events (UMBC Connects, Info Sessions, Arts With a Purpose, etc.)</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?</strong></div>
    <div><div>My ultimate goal is to become a faculty member in my area of expertise within academia. I have thoroughly enjoyed my current position and have had the privilege of working for the new student community. Working alongside the UMBC community has been a major accomplishment for me, especially in collaborating with those involved in AETP. This internship has provided valuable insight into my future endeavors with my degree.</div></div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong></div>
    <div><div>Each day, I was engaged in conversations with summer bridge program students from various undergraduate majors, encouraging them to advocate for diversity and inclusion within the academic sphere. I helped freshmen become a part of the UMBC community. I am committed to creating a positive and impactful academic environment that fosters growth and success for all students through various initiatives such as research, academic success, and future job guidelines.</div></div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong></div>
    <div>
    <div>If you are looking for internships, my advice is to focus your research on your areas of expertise. You can start by checking a company's website for any open positions, or look on job search platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, and ZipRecruiter. However, the most helpful resources are Handshake and the Career Center, which can connect you with companies and provide access to internship opportunities. Another great option is to search on Google with the keyword "Google Jobs" to find a variety of internship opportunities in your field of expertise, as well as your preferred location and date posted. By using these methods, you can effectively find internships that match your skills and interests.</div>
    <div>Never lose hope!</div>
    </div>
    <div><strong><br></strong></div>
    <div><strong>Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.</strong></div>
    <div>If you're looking to create a CV or resume and an impactful cover letter, the Career Center is always here to help. The Career Center will offer guidance on how to present your unique strengths and experiences in a way that captures the attention of potential employers. </div>
    <div><br></div>

<Title>Intern of the Week: Allie Smith</Title>

    <div>
    <strong>This semester I completed a(n)...: </strong>Internship </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Internship, Co-op, or Research Site (Company/Organization Name): </strong>T. Rowe Price</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Location of the Organization (City, State): </strong>Baltimore, MD</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Title of position:</strong> Intern with the GCAS department </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities: </strong></div>
    <div>I interned within the Global Client Account Services (GCAS) department within T. Rowe Price. Within this department I worked in the strategy and planning team, which does a mix of business admin and data management work to support all of GCAS globally. This team aligned perfectly with my BTA major since I was able to do work with both the business side and the technology side. Most of my day to day responsibilities included working on my projects. I can't get into specifics, but I was able to create a best practice guide for social media use for all of GCAS that I was able to present to our London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, and North America locations. I also conducted a technology review to determine the tech that GCAS associates have in and out of the office. With this review I was then able to work on a "tech starter pack" for new GCAS associates based on title and level. On the data side I worked on a project with Power BI to create a visual dashboard for managers to get multiple different views of their processes in order to see room for improvement. This is a project that I am still currently working on since my team asked me to stay on until the end of the year. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application? </strong></div>
    <div>I heard about the internship positions at T. Rowe from an event that UMBC had. It was towards the beginning of the semester last year, they had an event where T. Rowe employees and previous interns came in to share their experiences and discussed the different internship opportunities. From here I applied online for an internship, and went through a series of online interviews in order to obtain the internship. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What resources did you use to find your current experience?</strong></div>
    <div>Networking events (UMBC Connects, Info Sessions, Arts With a Purpose, etc.)</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?</strong></div>
    <div>I have enjoyed the networking opportunities because I was able to learn more about T. Rowe and the investment industry through the eyes of different associates with different backgrounds. I also enjoyed that I was given meaningful work and projects where I was able to learn things that related to my major and interests. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong></div>
    <div>I believe that my work has been impactful for the GCAS department because I aided in creating a social media best practices document that is housed on the landing page for all associates to see globally. Also my technology review aided the department so that the lead team is aware of what technology GCAS associates have and gives them a better way of looking at that information. And also through the dashboard that I created, this will be something that GCAS managers will actively use to visualize trends within their processes to see room for improvement. Overall, the work I was given was meaningful and are things that the department will benefit from having.  </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong></div>
    <div>Don't be scared to apply. I was hesitant at first to apply to an internship within the investment industry because it was an industry I did not have a lot of knowledge on. But I was still able to get this internship with my current interests, and then I was able to learn more about a field I may have never gotten the opportunity to learn about. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.</strong></div>
    <div>Two of the main things that I learned from this internship that I will take with me wherever I go next in my career / education are the importance of continuous learning and the importance of networking and communicating with new people. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>Do you want the chance to be the next Intern of the Week? Fill out <a href="https://forms.gle/AEGpWyc3LGso5Pzu7" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">this form</a> to be considered!</strong></div>

    <div>
    <strong>This semester I completed a(n)...: </strong>Internship</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Internship, Co-op, or Research Site (Company/Organization Name): </strong>The Historical Society of Harford County</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Location of the Organization (City, State): </strong>Bel Air, Maryland</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Title of position: </strong>Intern Graphic Designer</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities:</strong></div>
    <div>As an intern for the Historical Society of Harford County, I have several responsibilities and tasks to complete throughout the week. On Wednesdays, I meet in person to discuss topics such as creating flyers and social media posts, new signage, and a wide range of other design-related tasks. During the meeting, I lay out a plan of action for what deliverables I will work on for the next 7 days. During this time, I will  periodically send updates of designs virtually. After a week has passed, I attend the weekly Wednesday meeting to provide the final designs and proceed to discuss the upcoming week's plan of action.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?</strong></div>
    <div>I found this position through their website over my winter break. They posted that they needed interns, especially a design intern, and I decided to apply. I emailed the director and set up a time to come into their main building for an interview. The interview process was very smooth and I had the chance to provide my graphic design portfolio. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What resources did you use to find your current experience?</strong></div>
    <div>LinkedIn or other social media</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?</strong></div>
    <div>What I enjoy most about this position is the experience to practice professional skills and receive helpful feedback. I have had to take a lot of initiative in-order to schedule meetings, set personal deadlines and develop new creative ideas. Overall, this internship is a nice glance into what I will be doing with my degree in the future.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong></div>
    <div>The biggest impact I've made through this experience is helping engage my community with my designs. The Historical Society of Harford County works to preserve records and artifacts and serves as a way for Harford County residents to learn more about local history. My designs help spread exposure of our resources to members of the community.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong></div>
    <div>My advice for students seeking internships is to be proactive. Do research on what places nearby might need the help of an intern. Sometimes there will be a place on a company's website about open positions. LinkedIn, Handshake and the Career Center are great tools as well. Overall, do some digging to find an opportunity that is right for you.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div><strong>Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.</strong></div>
    <div>The Career Center has been a huge help with setting foundational guidelines to get the most out of your internship. Don't be afraid to reach out to the Career Center and the additional resources UMBC has to offer.</div>
